Is it true that silver cannot hide on a black horse? So that if a horse IS black, it does not carry silver?

But silver can & does hide in (be carried by) red based horses like palomino and sorrels?

Thanks!!!!!

You got it right Robin. If a horse is black, it's NOT carrying silver. It's the red ones you can't be sure of. I've had a lot of silvers over the years. Most of them were born a beautiful soft gray.

Yeah! I got one! LOL!

So Nort, my homozygous for black boy, even though his sire was silver, isn't the one that passed silver on to a few of his foals. It was my mares!

Nort is blacker than black, definitely no silver there.

A couple of your mares listed as sorrel, could be silver bay, but the pics were a bit small and/or they have a lot of leg white, so hard to be sure.

Goldie's sire is silver bay. So she got her agouti & silver from him.

I wanted to make sure Nort doesn't carry silver
