This filly was born 8/11

she is at least to me a bay

Her Sire is our smutty buckskin = Homozygous for black

Her Dam our black homozygous pinto mare

She has the raccoon eyes now and looks extremely dark

almost black but with the red color she would have to be a bay right?

Could she be a very dark bay or a bay with alot of smutty going on?

I raise Pinto's - but, I still do not consider myself a color expert at all.

When I have a foal born that color - I always register them as a bay pinto. Now, when she is clipped she may look black but, I go by the color of the grown out hair. I am not sure if that makes sence.

If I am wrong I sure hope someone corrects me. Because I would hate to be registering foals the wrong color.

Where is Songcatcher? I consider him a color expert so I hope to see him and others post.

Since Bay is a "base black" color.....Bay foals almost always clip out to look very dark, almost black. The hair will grow back in red again....but usually darker than the foal fuzz was.

Thanks so much

I was worried she could be a black pinto and had been advertising and already registered her as bay

our first Bay foal and never expected her to look so dark underneath

Thanks again

for the help
