What is the difference between cremello and perlino? They look exactly the same color to me. Is it just a genetic thing or what?

Yes, it IS genetic. Perlino is two dilute genes working off of a black base color. Cremello is two dilute genes working off a red base.

A black base (black or bay, for example) + one dilute gene = buckskin. Add the second dilute gene for perlino.

A red base (chestnut/sorrel) + one dilute = palomino. Add the second dilute gene for cremello.

The above is correct except for one point. A Black horse with two Cream genes is a Smokey Cream. The Black based horse must also have Agouti to be a Perlino. Therefore, a Bay horse with two Cream genes is a Perlino.
