If the stallion is a smutty buckskin (smutty father and yellow buckskin mother) and the mare is black (sorrel mother, Not yet sure on father)what is the likely color the offspring may be? Just trying to determine what the mare may have, looking into buying her.

Thanks,

Promise

Hi Promise,

A buckskin is a bay horse with the cream gene. And a bay horse is a black horse with the agouti gene.

Also both the buckskin and the black horse might carry a recessive red gene.

If both do carry red as well as black, some possibilities for the foal would be black, sorrel, buckskin, palomino, smoky black, bay.

If I have missed some I'm sure a color expert will also answer you. :)

If the black parent happened to carry a hidden cream gene (smokey black) you could also add Cremello, Perlino and Smokey Cream to the list.
