If you haven't already, read the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. Absolutely incredible. There are 5 books out at the moment (2 more to come) and they are long, just a forewarning. But some of the most well written books i've come across. Plots and subplots galore-if you like books with mystery that really make you think, this series will keep you busy. Just be prepared to procrastinate everything else to read

I'm loading the first one on my kindle. I'm always looking for new books to read. A series is a bonus!

Happy reading! You'll have to tell me what you think once you get into it.

I've read them all. They are addictive!

Thanks for the suggestion, off to check out what the library has as far as audio books.

I love the Game of Thrones series!! I hope the 6th book comes out soon.

I wouldn't count on it bcody. The author is known for being way off on release dates (by years!). So far he's only written 2 chapters of book 6, so it's going to be a long tine before we get it. He's gone up to 10 yrs between books

Thanks for the recommendation!!! I love reading series. I read A LOT (unabridged audio) and go instantly to a new book when I finish a prior book, so series are great. I will check these out.

Oops-repeat post!

I was thinking of you when I posted this, Jill! I think we have similar taste in books

I really give my Audible account a workout! I was thinking I probably need two (seriously, I think I'll sign H up for one so I can get 4 books a month)!

It's seriously cut into my TV time

I'd seen trailers for the HBO Series (or other cable outlet?) but didn't know it was based on a book series until I read your thread. I thought the TV trailers looked good but now am glad I had not watched. Reading's always more fun

Oh I love it! My family is big on reading-my grandpa always told me that books "broaden one's horizons", and that's so true. I much prefer books over tv/movies too. I have a great imagination so it's fun building my own images of characters

The HBO version isn't too shabby, but is a little bit over the top for me-i am a pretty open person, but it's way too much nudity for my tastes. The books are much better, of course!

My parents always read a lot and my sister is a teacher / reading specialist (2 master's degrees -- she's awesome!). I remember as a kid, my mom would pay me a quarter for each book I read, and buy me a new book when I was done with the first. Also, she'd pay me a quarter for each poem I memorized

Not that she had to, but it was cool! I remember the first time I found a "grown up" book I could read myself -- I stayed up all night reading it. It was a "grown up" book because it was a hard covered novel w/o color pictures. It was actually my Dad's favorite book as a child. The Adventures of Danny Meadow Mouse LOL! Good stuff, and hey... there's a whole series to those books, too
