Been driving and clipping for years and just purchased a mostly white pinto drivng horse. How long before a show should he be body clipped? If too close to a show, I'm afraid he will appear "pink" - especially if it is humid, yet I don't want him to appear "shaggy".

Suggestions?

I use a #10 blade on my ultra fair palomino pinto mare one week before showing. I actually never body shave with anything closer than that on any of my horses. I'm one of the against the pink horse folks too.

I've used a 15 on the show horses, and I I only get the really pink look on the legs, if I am showing on Friday I'll clip Sunday or Monday and the pinky look is gone, and I haven't have one burn either.

I prefer a #10 for the pintos and clip 3 to 7 days ahead according to how much color I want to come back on the horse. The heads, almost, always get done the day before with 30, 40 & sometimes 50.
