Many of your know from my prior thread that my mom was in very bad health and that I had planned to go visit her. Originally I had my trip planned for Nov. 21- Dec.1, but on Nov. 5, my mom went back into the hospital and on Nov. 6th, my sister informed me that I needed to "come home now". I made it back to Oregon on the 7th and my mom went into hospice care. She passed away in the early morning of the 10th peacefully in her sleep.

I am so grateful I was able to see/talk to her before she died. She was pretty coherent most of the time, except the last day before she passed she slept most of the day, but she did know me when I talked to her and she did hear us when we were talking in the room, because she would respond with a grunt or brief movement or flutter of her eyes.

This was one of the most difficult times in my life, but I am blessed with a close-knit family that spent a lot of time together while I was in town. We played games, went bowling and had Thanksgiving dinner. My dad and I went to a casino a few times (a hour trip one way so time spent talking to him in the car). My mom would NOT have wanted us to be depressed and not having any fun. She was always a happy, joyful person and wanted everyone else to be as well. I felt her presence when we were laughing and teasing each other as our family does out of love. It was also our way of coping with the loss, because I know we all have/had our times when we have broken down and cried as well.

I also saw a few friends while in town, went to the movies and ate out at restaurants a LOT! (I don't even wanna know how much I gained on this trip!)

I was in Oregon for 3.5 weeks and while I had a good trip (considering), I was ready to come HOME (to Florida) and see Deb and all the furkids! I wanted my normal life back...and I wanted time to grieve in private.

I will miss my mom every day of my life...She was my hero! I will miss her smile, her warm sincere hugs, her laughs and her tears (she would cry at birthday cards and good-byes) and her generous nature. If you were her friend (and she had MANY), you were friends forever. I have so many memories to keep close to my heart of my mom.

I am glad she is out of pain. She suffered a lot in the last 5 years of her life...heart attack, open heart surgery, hip break/surgery, diabetes (which ultimately caused a limb amputation) and colon cancer (which was her cause of death). My 9 yr old niece said "She is up in heaven healthy and whole again with 2 legs to walk and dance." True story...I know she is!

I plan to get a tattoo in memory of my mom. Just need to figure out the perfect one!

RIP Mom...I love you and miss you!

Have been keeping you in my thoughts, Linda. I'm happy you got to go, but also happy you are now home. Your words about your mom are beautiful!

I'm so sorry about your mom Linda. I was recently wondering how she was doing, so very sad to hear this news. I'm glad that you were able to go home and be with her and your family.

I'm so sorry, you lost your Mom, she sounded fabulous

and what a wonderful family it's sounds as though you have. Makes me miss my Mom all over again, she was my best friend and always so happy, its been 15 years since she passed away and life has never been the same I so wish I could share things with her again

But at the same time there is such a warm part she created in my life that will always be there

((((HUGS))))

Thanks everyone! It has been a very difficult month, but I am glad to be home and be with Deb and my furkids. I am also excited to decorate my tree this year; not only is it going to be "new" (new tree and decorations), but my mom LOVED decorating for the holidays and made "tree decoration" a family tradition for years! I will be doing this today with Christmas music playing...and knowing my mom is right here with me....
