Hi all and Happy New Year and hoping your Christmas was merry and bright. I thought I would begin by telling what is currently going on in my world and what I expect and hope for a new year. Looking forward to hearing what is going on with other forum members. Seems I have not had the time or willingness to post much lately but that is no excuse for wishing you all a blessed New Year. We have been so busy getting our place updated and ready to sell. As of November we find ourselves managing two households. My husband had not seen a raise in seven years from a greedy boss. No, his name was not Ebenezer. So, in November my husband took another job. His former employer offered a huge raise but it was too little too late. We bought a Forest River Wildcat RV and my husband now lives in it a couple of hours from here at his new job which he absolutely loves the boss, the job, and the co-workers, as well as the job security and potential for advancement. This has left me with a lot more responsibility at the home/farm and to put it mildly I am tired. Hopefully, it should pay off since I am about a year and a half from retirement and even sooner should early out be offered. We had a wonderful yet meager Christmas and the new year will consist of his bi-weekly visits home. It actually feels like dating, although I thought I was done with that. Tee-hee. The day he got set up in the RV park was actually our 10 year anniversary and I did not help with the move because I was working overtime. This year will no doubt be a challenge, but still when I look around at all the pain and suffering in the world I can't help but feel blessed. The sad part about Christmas was that we had to put down one of his two goats. Not really sure what she had come down with but we had tried drenching, electrolytes, and all and the poor girl was ready to give up. On Christmas Eve I was ready to end her suffering when my husband got home and did it himself. It was very sad and Christmas Day we gave her a proper burial. Enough about the down side. We had a joyful time with family and friends this week and although we will be apart New Year's I do feel life is basically good. I will be celebrating the New Year with a friend that has been down on her luck for some time now but has managed to build a new and positive life for herself. We will be having a meal and movies here and hubby will be telling tales with the old geezers in the RV park. My new year will be spent finding good homes for some of the horses and giving the farm/house more appeal for a buyer. The only resolutions I am making are to think positive thoughts, eat healthy, tell those I love I love them more often than I have in the past, and spend more time reading the good book. So what is going on with you all? What are you planning for 2014? I am normally camera shy but here is a picture we took this past week.

I hear ya, no matter what goes down, I know we are still blessed. My husband got an awesome new job a year ago after his workplace unexpectedly shut its doors. The job and people are amazing, but they will be consolidating facilities and closing this location

He has a healthy stay on package till June. I have faith it will work out. Went back to work myself to help offset the non essentials, love the job. It will all work out in the end, it is out of my hands, still feeling blessed no matter the outcome, the co workers make it all worth while for him. Hope you all have a happy and healthy new year!

Good to hear the positive notes from you Carolyn. Happy New Year to you and everyone else here on the forum!

Sure good to hear your husband seems so much happier. Things should look up all the way around for you then.

For any that read the 'what's for dinner tonight' thread-you already know what's been going on with me for the last 6 months. Had a foot/ankle injury that just didn't seem to get better. Now it seemed they thought it was finally down to Chronic Pain Syndrome; but when I went to the Pain Management Doctor this past Wednesday, he determined I did not have enough of the symptoms; but I do have osteopenia and osteoporosis and some is in that ankle bone and foot. So, I guess I have (some technical term) something to do with that. I the beginning the podiatrist I went to had me walking on it and I stayed at work (which was almost continual walking all day). Then I switched to a better ortho place and they sent me to do Physical Therapy, but after about 5 weeks with a bit of improvement I went downhill. So back to the ortho place and they did (finally!) an MRI and then they could see I had only healed ligaments but still had extensive bone bruising and inflammation. So off to their podiatrit/specialist/surgeon. Into a cast for 2 weeks and on prednisone for 6 days. Off with the cast, foot looks good. Back on with the good old "Moonboot" and crutches. Try to walk on it some. Not much improvement. Off to the Pain Dr. and this diagnosis. So now I am back to "Moonboot", crutches and no weight on it and let it try to heal (and just how long is THAT going to take YET!!!). Dr. suggests I might want to try a knee scooter to free up my hands and since I think the crutches are nasty and dangerous (I have fallen 3 times so far because of damp or wet spots or dog hair puff or paper, etc.). What I want for the new year is my foot back so I can walk (I don't even have to be able to run). I will enjoy just doing whatever for and at the horseshows or with the horses. (can't even get out to see them and pat their little noses). I will remember the wonderful giving and helpful people from this experience and try to remember to pay it forward. And DEFINITELY remember all the things my husband had to do for me during all this and try to keep my lips zipped and a smile on my face in return for all that he did do. And to my Mom, who has let me cry, _itch, rant, rave, etc. etc. during all this (yeah, that's what Mom's are for, but still....). There are a lot worse things then what's going on with me; so I am lucky I am just getting a taste instead of a whole meal. I thank God for the wonderful caring helpful people I have met and how somehow they made ME feel cheerful.

It's great to hear good news for the new year. I'm happy for all that have it and ever hopeful for those that don't.

My plans for the coming year are to settle in my new home and mini farm! After a Murphys Law nightmare 3 months trying to close on this farm, we finally did it last Friday! The current owners are moving out this week and we should get the keys soon. I'm hoping the weather cooperates and we can do the modifications that would enable us to move the minis and other critters over there. I'm not leaving until my critters do! Now I hope the housing market gets better so we can sell our current home. Winter is a bad time to move and sell, but you have to deal with what life throws at you. Hope for a mild winter and early spring!

Vickie, I hope you get right into the new routine without your hubby right there. I have a close friend who has lived apart from her hubs off and on for 10 years and they make it work by keeping super busy and weekends/vacations together. Hope it just turns out to be a big blessing and easier done than said!

I just hope I can grow in favor with God more in 2014. I would like to be better with people, but accept that we can't win them all. I hope to continue on treadmill and hiking for good health, learn to just brush things off more. Maybe call my grandma more and put even more time and thought into educating my boys. Continually improving my private photography skills, art, haircutting, barefoot trimming, and writing skills. (Move my healthcare back to PA after spending an awful lot at Cleveland clinic for screening. Stay healthy! I learned to manage aches and pains with icy hot to help relieve stress.)

I would like to maintain my barn and property better and that will require a dumpster. The previous owners left a lot of junk behind and we are still sorting through. I would love to paint the house and fix up stalls out in the barn. The interior of the house will have to wait until the boys are mostly grown. It is sad that we moved here 7 years ago and there is still much to be done

I am expecting a foal in June and plan on possibly breeding one for '15. We mini people are dreamers and tend to think years in advance.

Best blessings for 2014 from Barefoot Minis!

Nothing major for the new year, just little things...

Like keeping this computer desk cleaner so I can find things.

Keeping my office cleaner so I can find things.

Keep up with paperwork, instead of letting it pile up (and up).

Clear out the clutter, and try not to replace it with new clutter.

Get more organized.

Take time to do a bit of quilting.

Spend more time doing fun things with the horses (I've kind of fallen in a rut of pretty much just taking care of them, and haven't done the fun stuff lately).

My only plan is to fight to get through another year and I hope it's better than this one was.

My plan for 2014 is to try to be more positive and more loving and kind.My partner,Karl ,and I have been together since 1985 and we both have health issues.Mine is MAJOR joint problems, nothing else.He has many health issues-diabetes, high blood pressure,MAJOR eye problems, pacemaker, hearing issues, and cholesteral issues and not dealing well with aging. We both get irritated when we can't function as we used to and snap at each other. This past year has been very stressful for both of us.I am hoping we have a better year and are kinder to each other. At our ages-me 74 and him 70 in March we need each other to keep this place and us going.I am also going to make a serious effort to get rid of STUFF-It really accumulates and what is a treasure to us our kids don't want.Hope every one has a safe and happy new year and we don't get slammed by bad weather events.Off to watch the Rose parade on TV from CA.My favorite because of all the equestrian groups.

wow that's a big life change for y'all Vickie! living apart is hard but with such good attitudes you will do fine. That is a really good photo, nice to see you!

Carolyn it's always nice to hear someone speak about all their blessings!

Performancemini I'll help pray for you to get your foot back, just remember to continue to look up

candycar a BIg Congrats on your new farm! i don't envy you the work ahead but I do envy the experience! I know how excited you must be,

Tab I too will focus more on experiencing God in the coming year, and definitely need to do better with just brushing things off. Good luck with your upcoming foal.

Chanda ditto everything you said! except the quilting I don't do that but the others you nailed what I need to do!

Robin you've got to try to shake off the negativity, if I could make it go away for you I would but I can't. If you start your day fighting to get through another, that's how it will end too with you doing it again the next day. You need to dig down deep inside and connect with what will bring you up to see the positive of every day. When you find the holy spirit there in your heart, what has always been there, you'll be amazed at how your outlook and whole life will change. You will be thankful and looking forward to each new year I promise. You are one of the sweetest kindest people I know and I wish I could just hug you! I want you to smile and think of only happy things the rest of the day.

Bevan You and Karl sound like a wonderful couple! To be kinder to each other is a awesome resolution! I too need to make a serious effort to get rid of STUFF I hear you there!

Good luck to all - Happy New Year!!!
