Just wondering if anyone has heard of this type of grass as hay..........Gramma Grass???

If so, is it safe? What family of grasses is it in??? Etc........

Thanks!

There are several species of Grama grasses, family Bouteloua. My range forage book says its good for all classes of livestock. Sideoats grama and Blue grama grows pretty much all over the US (except the NW and SE); Black grama is pretty much just desert southwest states; and Hairy grama in the mid-west down through the desert southwest.

Hope this helps you some.

[i think I'm going to put my plant book back on the bookshelf; its been in a box for several year. It could come in handy]

Gramma varieties are listed as "warm season native grasses"

you can read a little about different varieties at this seed house link............native grasses
