It is with a sad and happy heart that I have come to the board to report that Helen Keller and her mom have gone to a wonderful new home. Many of you know Helens story and how much she has come to mean to all of us but truthfully we didnt give her and mom as much time as they should have had. Also it has bothered me for the last year that the area they had wasnt as big as I would have liked and I really had no other area where I felt Helen would be safe from hitting trees or other obstacles. Sooo I have been looking for the perfect place for them for several months. I interviewed over 25 people and had some of them come to see Helen and after much deliberation and with a sorry heart I finally agreed to let them go to a wonderful young family. They will be loved and caudled as they were here and then some. They have a new small barn that is all theirs and a paddock for now that will continue to be made bigger and bigger until they have the run of a 5 acre pasture. It will take a little time for this as Helen has to get used to it a little at a time. If for any reason it doesnt work out they will come back home. You all wouild have been so proud Helen had never been on a trailer but trailered like an old pro. I have show horses that dont load as well as she did. All of that thanks to my 13 year old grandson who has worked with Helen since she was a baby. She now has 4 children to love her. And a loving mom and dad the new mom was in tears right along with me when I left. They are only a 1/2 hour from here and we have a standing invitation to come see them any time. My heart breaks for me but I know I did the right thing for them and that they are in a place where they can be brushed and loved on every day. This is far from the end of Helen's story but a new beginning. I will continue to update occasionally if that is OK. Helen was two the 4th of August. Thanks for letting me share.
