I just got a check in the mail because I placed in the top five in several stakes classes on the last day.

I have the rule book in front of me and can't find anything specifically addressing this issue. Can I accept the money/cash the check and still keep my amateur status?? I do remember seeing a mix of professional trainers and amateurs in the classes I was in so I assume it is OK, but I don't want to do anything to endanger my amateur status. When I entered it was more for fun and I didn't think about this potential issue because to be honest, I didn't think I would place high enough to actually win money and lo and behold, here we are.

I guess I will call the AMHR office tomorrow to be sure, but thought someone here might know the answer now.

It was very exciting to receive though, and I will be framing a copy of the check

Yes you are fine, that is not a problem. Now if you showed SOMEONE else's horse in the stakes class, and kept the money that was theirs then NO, that you cannot do.

NONONO don't listen to them......you must send the money to me
