Sorry it took so long to post this, but my little girl came down with a stomach virus last night

So, I was up all night and spent the day doing laundry and airing out mattresses.

Here is the auction breakdown and a few thoughts, info. I have done the best I could with colors, but am by no stretch an expert

Thankfully there were a lot of blacks

For those of you who don’t know this story, the horses were seized from a “vet†in March, after nearly two years of the shelter attempting to take them. Horse described as thin had hipbones prominent even under winter woolies, very thin ones were even worse. Some mares were confirmed in foal, some very close to foaling and bagged up. Open mares were tested in March, but were not guaranteed open, as they may have not been far enough along to determine accurately. Horses described as “small†were very slight of frame and probably stunted in growth and development due to malnutrition.

The good news is Dr. Robbins, the shelter director was “very impressed†with CMHR and wants more info so he can keep a file at the office for future cases. He may try to get minis classified as exotics rather than livestock, in order to avoid this situation in the future. So, Kay send me some info, or fax it to the shelter

After a month of good food, water, and vet care, most of the horses looked OK, but a few were still having a hard time recovering and some had to be put down before we got involved

I have afew pictures i will send Kay to post, some were too dark to come out, and I could not get very close for any good individual shots.

Gosh sorry this didn't come out well, all my spacing got pushed together

I forgot to put the average prices, so here they are:

Stallions $ 165

Open mares $ 303 (excluding the one who sold for $ 700, the avg. was $ 2750

Bred mares $ 360

Mares with foals $ 1040

I'm amazed, they got some pretty good prices for the mares, considering their conditions. I just hope and pray that these buyers know what they're getting into.

Angie, all I can say is, YOU ROCK!!!

Just want to say that having minis classifieds as exotics probably wouldn't be a good idea. The county I live in, as well as some neighboring counties, have banned owning exotic animals because of children being mauled and killed by tigers that were being kept as pets.

If minis were considered exotics, they would be banned in areas with these restrictions.

Minis should still be considered livestock, simply because that is what they are no matter how much of a pet they may be!

Hi kimmc,

The minis are in Louisiana, but they were all sold at auction. CMHR was there to take any that were unwanted. You can read about the under the topic "Need your help... Got an email about a possible rescue involving 30 to 45 minis..." It is about half way down the first page. Thanks for the offer to help

Did CMHR end up taking any or were they all purchased?

Hi Lisa

Thankfully they all got bids but we were prepared to take up to 12. Also we had angie hand out tons of info regarding caring for a mini etc. I think the shelter reallly appreciated the help
