Hello, sorry I haven't been on much, just kinda lurking
default_rolleyes.gif
I am still trying to get in a schedule with the new night time job I got. I really like it so far.. Anyways, not to sure if anyone remembers in the fall when I went threw all that testing to try to find out why my hands were going numb and painful? Well they finally said it was due to a disc I have out in my neck.. Well about two weeks ago, it came back, plus other areas and issues.. Well i wen to the dr last week as I couldn't take it anymore as it was getting really painful plus I was having problems at work with my hands.. The dr. was quiet for a while, left the room and came back in.. Well I had some other tests done, and we finally know what is/ and was going on. I was put on a antibotic in the fall for a sinus/ear infection. Well about 4 wks ago, I had another ear infection(yes, 35 and still getting ear infections)

Well my dr put things together and the tests confirmed it. I have medicine induced Lupus.

This anitbotic can give you Lupus. Welll the pain meds/ antiflam. meds are not helping. If I took it right, now, I can have flare ups anytime.. But I do go back to the drs Monday so I should know more. This is just so scarey, a med to help an ear infection caused me to get Lupus..

It just makes a person wonder if, I know me for sure, we should take any meds at all..

Also, still no word on when hubby is going back to work

I am about at the end of my rope.. But, I hope with in a couple of weeks I will have a "new member" of the family to share with you all

Am sorry hear you have lupus...is there anything your Doc can do?

We know someone one that is beating Lupus and if you want me to put you in touch with her,, PM me and will get you her phone number.

I hear you on the Meds.. my body can't handle any antibotics, haven't been able too since I was a child....and finding out the hard way I am allergic to most prescription meds too. Think many Docs give people too many drugs and or do not paty attention to what they are giving.

Also hope your DH finds a job soon!

Gosh, I didn't know that either. Sorry to hear you have Lupus but glad to know that they finally figured it out. Hope they can get you feeling better soon.

I'm just finished my last dose of antibiotics tonight. They gave me pain pills also, but I didn't take any of those. I always think if I can tough it out it is better fo me, but I'm afraid to skip the antibiotics....now I wonder...

We just keep thinking it has to get better..

3 years ago I was on Enbrel along with Methotrexate for my severe RA condition Well I had a very severe reaction to the Methotrexate and really did not know it at the time... It started with what seemed the stomach flu. Couldn't keep anything down you all know what I am talking about.

I went to the doctor and he also agreed it is the stomach flu. I KNEW I should have INSISTED on a blood test but forgot to ask for one. Any how. 3 days later I went back to ANOTHER Doctor as I was not getting any better. Well THAT Doctor sent me Directly to the ER after doing a blood test.~!!

I was taken to ICU where I spent then next 3 days having kidney dialysis 3 times as not only had my Kidneys shut down but also my liver~!!

And looking back it was about 3 days that they had been shut down~!!!!

Everyone of the 4 specialists that were working on me told me days later that if I had waited just ONE MORE DAY Nothing would have started up again and I would not be around today typing this post~!!!!

and ALL due to the Methotrexate ~!!!!

Prescription Drugs are given basically as a TRIAL AND ERROR as Doctors REALLY don't know how each person is going to react to ANY given drug and at any given time~!

I am fine now and will never take that particular drug again~!

Jodie, I'm sorry you are going through this now after all of the other stuff. I hope you get some help and answers soon.

Keeping my fingers crossed your hubby gets back to work soon.

LisaF,

In the late summer/ fall last year I was also put on it for a sinus and ear infection that spread to my brain. That is why i passing out last year. I am scared to death to take any meds. now..

((((HUGS)))))))))) Glad you found a job you like. Hopefully the Dr has positive things to say.

Early this year I had a a severe infection in my toe, Dr gave me Bactrim, I literally couldn't move, my skin and muscles felt like they were crawling I couldn't lift my arms to even level, called the Dr he told me it was an anxiety attack and that I'd be fine, even though the package said if you have muscle weakness etc to call your dr as it could be a life threatening side effect. To this day I won't take ANY new medication if I'm home alone, most antibiotics knock me out for a while, and pain meds are really bad, its just not worth it to me.

Go to lupus.org and read about this. Usually the symptoms wane when you go off that abx/med. Its not true Lupus in that sense. So dont get scared. You can also do a search for 'medicine induced Lupus' and it will bring up a ton of sites. Good luck!!

As for the Methotrexate. Goodgooglemoogly I was on that a few years back and within a couple days I was miserable. Finally had to call my Mother to come up 130 miles to take me to the ER. Since I had been on the floor for 2 days, I wasnt all that presentable and ER Dr assumed I was an addict. Refused me iv fluids ( had been vomiting for days , couldnt even hold down a sip of water) and treated me like doodoo. That stuff is E V I L.

And I was on Methotrexate for one full year along with Enbrel taking 2 shots a week of Enbrel and 10 --- 2.5 mg tabs of Methotrexate once a week~!

Every one reacts differently to medications; that is why there are so many. ANY side effects or adverse effects should be reported to your PHARMICIST. He/she knows a lot more about meds than the docs do, and don't have the drug reps trying to convince them to prescribe. There are many antibiotics that my body won't tolerate and they are all on the pharmacy computer. Doctors do make mistakes on occasion, and it is the pharmacist's job to catch them and clear them up. Meds can save a life, meds can kill, and all kinds of fun things go into the middle of the bell curve.

Ok, I am off my pharmacist soap box. Take care; I hope things turn brighter soon.

HOLY COW, I had NO idea that drugs could cause that!!

I can't take Bactrim- it's a sulpha drug (anti biotic) that is used a LOT for respiritory, ear, tonsil, sinus, etc.. infections. This is also what your SMZ's for your horses basicly are!!

I took it one time and broke out in minutes, itching so hard, turned red all over my hands.. etc... had no idea what the heck happened. Forgot about it and the next time I got my annual tonsilitis, etc.. the doc gave me Bactrim again and I took one right away on the way home. I got about half way home on the highway and was itching SO BAD, I wanted to rip my skin off, it would not stop, and then I started having trouble breathing!!!! I was scared to death!!! It passed and by the time I got home, was feeling better but called the doctor right away and they told me NEVER to take that again. I am allergic to other crap too, so that was just added to the list! I'm also allergic to penicillin and to ALL NSAIDS, from Ibuprofen to Naproxen, Vioxx and all the other crap...

I hope they can help you!!??? Now what?? Did you have any symptoms when you were taking it or anything??

Yes, I had other symptoms, but they were wrongly diagonised.. Very tired, all over muscle soreness/weakness, pain in my hip, depression(magnified) panic attacks(worse than ever) and blisters on any skin exposed to the sun... To sum it up in the nit shell, I have felt like I have been going to die off and on for the past year. Kinda was brushed off like it was all in my head.. But now i know..

I was ready for the paddy wagon, and stil am
default_rolleyes.gif
I have to go to another dr. now as some of the treatment is cortizone shots/ meds.. But I am allgeric to cortizone
default_rolleyes.gif
, So my dr. wants me to go to someone else.. I feel like I am being passed like a hot potato.. I pray this dr will be able to due something.

I was told as soon as I stopped the med( and have read it) that the symptoms will go a way..Not in my case. I am fine on the antibotic, and everything hits after I have finished it all.. If it is strange it will happen to me, I am finding out..
