    Can't make myself….

Hi all; A couple of months ago, I asked about neck sweating and got lukewarm responses, which I totally understand. You see, I really want to show but I REALLY don't want to put my horses through all the uncomfortable practices that are required. So after I washed my sweats, wrote down the...

    How long to wrap/sweat necks?

For those of you who show, how long do you need to use either wraps or sweats for them to be effective? Any tips would be helpful!

Throat Wrap vs Throat sweat? Is there a difference?

I want to get several of my horses in shape for the show ring this year. It seems that most competitive horses have their throat latch and/ or neck sweated. I've never really used one. Is there a difference between a wrap and a sweat and how they are used? I've also seen that you can get...

    Suggestions for older arthritic mare

I've got a 28 year old mare who is just showing the signs of old age. She is particularly stiff in one back leg. Since it has started to get cold, I can really tell she is "stove up". I put her on one dose of banamine daily for the last 4 days, but, of course, don't want to keep her on it...

    Temperament-difference between minis and ponies

Hi all; I have a good friend who has recently gotten into ponies. We have been talking about the differences in temperaments between miniatures and ponies. They seem like very different creatures. Have you all noticed a difference? If so, could you describe the difference?

    advise for long hauls

Hi all; I'm getting ready to have my 8 year old gelding hauled for about 1000 miles. Can I get some words of wisdom about: *how to prepare the horse? *what type of hay should I send? *things to look for when the hauler shows up? *anything you would recommend to make it easier on my guy...

    Lost littermate-now won't eat

My 17 year old male dog lost his sister, his littermate, last Monday. They had always been together. He did OK til Friday. Now Joey (my dog) has quit eating, seems lethargic and depressed. Does anyone else have experience with this situation in dogs? Thanks! JMc

Help! Need to bring members back into club....

Hi all; I'm a member of my local mini club, the secretary. Our club lost a lot of members due to in-fighting and general nastiness. That is in the past. We have a new board and are planning on changing our name. Our membership is very low, a half-dozen of us have kept the club together...

    "Pone"-IR related

I purchased a 9 year old gelding over the internet in January. He had a full winter coat. When I received him, he had a cresty neck and fat deposits on both sides at the girth area. This horse had been out on pasture with minimal care for 3 years. The fat deposits are "lumpy". This is what I...

    What "characteristic" justifiy breeding?

There have been alot of posts about the poor horse market in the country right now. Many breeders are cutting way back or deciding to enjoy their horses in another way, showing, driving, etc. How do you determine if a horse should continue to be bred, even in a poor market? What...

    fallen or broken crest

What predisposes a mini to a fallen/broken crest? I have a 32" gelding who has a stockier build. He's 9 years old, a new purchase. When I feel of him, his neck is a little "wobblier" and heavier on top than is ideal. He is presently at a good weight. Any recommendations? Thoughts?

    wormer for lice

I just purchased two minis that came in from the midwest. I set up a quarantine pen well away from my herd. Well the new minis arrived in good shape with one exception. They have lice. I've already used a recommended topical solution on both and sprayed the area where they are staying...
