    A team

How do you go about choosing a team mate for your horse? I know that temperament, stride, and size are most important, but how do you go about finding a horse with a similar stride as your horse without actually getting them together? Just eye ball it? Any tips?

    Team in a cart

Well my subject basically said it all. I got a taste of driving a team of Haffies. Oh my gosh was that fun! I would love to drive a team of minis. Of course I really want a wagon, but since my shaft of my easy entry cart broke I went back to the Sugar Rock Farm and noticed that they have a pole...

    Broken Shaft

I have a cart, easy entry, with wooden shafts. One of them broke today. No worries the cart was not in use. Anyway, do I have to contact the original maker of the cart? Because that is an issue, I don't remember. Or how do I get new shafts?

    HEEE HAWWWW

My little guy, Dominique, can't manage it yet and he is 5 months now. Sounds something like a goose. Does it take time before they can really bray or will he never be able to? Not that I care, he is cute and a button anyway but I was just wondering.

    Hoof pads

The most horrible thing happened last week. Ike foundered. We have TONS of black walnuts in my area. I am careful to keep them out of the horses area, or I thought I had been. We had a large wind and I think some blew in there from trees not on my property. I think I have a handle on that...

My new Jenny. . . drying off

Ugg about sums it up. First of all I want to say, know that part of your brain that shuts off when too many things seem out of place and you do something rash? Like bring home a donkey that still had a colt on her. . . and don't buy the colt? I don't want to bad mouth this person, so I will...

    Tack cleaning

I admit it. I do not clean my tack as often as I should. I usually use glycerin soap and neats foot oil, I know so old school. Well I tried Absorbine's product this time, Horseman's One Step. It seems to work pretty well on some of my old stuff. Although I need to go over some heavy soiled...

Where did you get your harness?

I am working and restoring my own harness, which has fallen on bad times. oops I may be in the market for a new harness. Not a show harness. Just a good working harness with breeching. Mine is a beat up show harness without breeching. So I am just wondering where did you get your all around...

    Mini donk and feed

I have 1 draft cross, three mini, and am looking at a mini donk this weekend. My horses get hay in the morning and then let out to grass in the afternoon- just our summer routine. They are out for about 5 hours on grass. Will this be okay for a mini donk, once it is acclimated to the routine and...

    Neck sweat alternatives

Hello- I am not show my, now oversized, mini mare but I wanted to slim down her throat latch area for driving. I don't want to spend the extra money for a neck sweat if I don't need to. I had an idea and wanted to run it past others. I was wondering if I could use a polo wrap wrapped around the...

    Weaning abruptly

There have been a few posts lately about weaning and I know that there are lots of ideas about how to wean and when to wean. I am wondering if anyone knows if there are long last effects to the horses that are wean abruptly. Such as those at an auction or for whatever reason.

    I fianlly did it

I made a round pen and it works great! I have been wanting one forever, but don't have the money or vehical to get a pipe one. So I thought about what I had around the house. It is the simplest kind to make. I have 7 fiberglass poles and 2 strains of braided electric wire. It isn't electrified...

    It's a horse. . . just a small one

I was recently talking to somebody who is a perfectly capable big horse perosn, but when it came to minis, the questions that they asked were.. well elementary horse questions. I kept thinking to myself, and occationally saying out loud. They are horses, just smaller than most. Yet as I was...

    reseeding pasture

Hey all. Last fall we bought a nice little piece of property with about 4 acres. About 1 1/2 is pasture for the horses. I have five little ones, so during the summer, with rotation that should be enough. My problem is that a LOT of it is in weeds and the rest is now over grazed. I have moved the...
