    Struggling with my driving mare

She is 9 years old. I am wondering now if the throat latch is too tight. I will admit after not harnessing after a couple of years I was fumbling as to how to properly put it on. I think I am okay now. She is a very calm mare. It didn't seem to bother her ,she just kept going.

    Struggling with my driving mare

I am having an issue with my driving mare. She has been conditioning since mid March. I decided a week ago I wanted to drive her at my first show. 18 days out thought it was enough time. She has driven before but its been a couple of years. Started her in the bitting rig. Great. Our weather...

Thank you again for your input...I can use my work computer to update the website, that is no problem.. but just can't be on it all day trying to set one up. What I may do is come in on a Saturday and try one of the sites recommended and see what I can do on my own. I have sold advertising for...

Problem one-- only have a computer at work. I would like one that I can change myself and have my own domain name. Problem two I...

    braiding for roadster class

I see photos of braids in the mane and forelock of roadster horses. My thought is you just braid a part of the hair as the third strand but what do you do when you run out of hair? thanks

    Driving obstacle class

Tried out my stallion to see where we needed to start. He did the 360 beautifully, I was pretty shocked for his first attempt. I used the same cue as if we were side passing and he picked up on it pretty well. It will come. I have one more question. I searched for videos of classes and it seems...

    Driving obstacle class

I am laughing now, this may be a little more of a challange than I had anticipated but... for me that is what it is all about. I am sure it will be fun. I think it will just be about not getting a DQ and finishing the course. I did see that wooden rail at nationals. I only saw one exhibitor...

    Driving obstacle class

anyone every encounter the water hazard? I am told to expect it. Really can't picture how that would go? Thank you for the information so far, I can see I will struggle with the backing, not his strong ability. I did see some of the amhr national youth class, there was one obstacle--looked like...

    Driving obstacle class

I am looking to challange myself and my horse this season by attempting driving obstacle class. I have only seen the class once. Can anyone help me with a course set up. What kinds of obstacles can I expect. Water is listed as one option, has anyone encountered this and what was the set up for...

    any suggestions?

I will add a little bit more-- when she had her initial problem in the fall I will admit that she got away from us weight wise. She was always a full figure girl--not heavy just bigger. But she did have a bit of a cresty neck and some extra fat around her rump. I was in the process of getting...

    any suggestions?

I have a mini mare 8 years old 37" she had a mild founder(that is my take on it) last fall and the vet was out and more or less said not to worry it was very minor --did normal things, low carb grain, grazing muzzle, kept up on hooves. With in a couple of days she was back to normal to the...

    Is my filly blind?

I am going to go ahead and have the vet out. Her eyes are dark colored and look very normal. I am going to try some of the things suggested but it is strange that the lightness and darkness may be on to something. Last night we put up hay and I didn't get into the barn until later after dark...

    Is my filly blind?

I remember a post earlier this year about a foal that had excessive blinking when turned out. I was trying to find that post to talk to that person or maybe someone else can help me. My foal too experienced that situation at birth-- she is now almost two months old. I think she is now blind. I...

    very new to driving

I have gone very slowly with him up to this point. I should have given you some back ground on him. He has been shown in halter at amhr shows since he was a yearling-- he is now 4. Last fall we spent a month just ground driving and learning basic commands. I spent a couple of weeks dragging the...

    very new to driving

I don't have any photos yet, it has been so cold here-- I live in northeast ohio--- I haven't been able to work outside-- That is part of the problem, I was just trying to do some things inside to get him going again while I was waiting for the weather to break. We have a very small indoor...

    very new to driving

I have shown miniatures for many years and for the first time I am going to attempt driving classes. I have a wonderful stallion that last fall I broke to pull the cart. I purchased a bitting rig but haven't used it yet because basically I don't know how or the proper use. I am hoping someone...
