    Not eating or drinking

I appreciate all of the kind responses. It has been a tough week for us; so sad to look out at an empty corral. It will take time to get over, but I know you would all feel the same way. We've just got to deal with this grieving period. We will try to focus on the time we did have with her and...

    RIP Maggie

Just lost ours on Sunday evening, so I feel your pain, though we had not had her so many years. So sorry for this loss :(

    Not eating or drinking

I am sorry. Now we know just how painful it is, and especially unexpected and not knowing why. And we know the other people who lost theirs today. If our vet is ever able to pinpoint it, or something is going around, I will post it here so people in our region can be aware. My best guess is...

    Not eating or drinking

Now it is getting weirder. Our vet called and just had a second mini die suddenly today, just like ours did, only about 8 miles away. He is starting to wonder if something is going on in the area.

    See above :(

    Not eating or drinking

Sadly, our little girl passed away last night. No symptoms at all except not eating and lethargic. The vet thinks she may have gotten into a poisonous plant, and we do have oleander nearby. He said if she even had one leaf of it that blew around, it could have done this, so that is his best...

    Not eating or drinking

No, he says she has not passed any manure today. None since last night.

    Not eating or drinking

I will have to check with my dh on the most recent manure and see if there is any from today. The vet is scheduled for 9:30 am tomorrow morning.

    Not eating or drinking

No, unfortunately no banamine. We have never had this problem before, so we were not prepared with any meds. She has just stood in a corner of her corral all day. No rolling or anything, but she usually walks around a lot and she is staying very still today.

    Not eating or drinking

We're worried about our little mini mare. Since it is warming up in south Texas, my dh put her out for an hour to eat green grass (I didn't know). I don't know if she ate something weird or just ate too much green grass for a first time of the season, but she did not eat last night or this...

    Does mare weight look ok?

UPDATE: The equine vet was just here and he thought she looked perfect He said so many of them are overweight, but her weight was ideal.Very reassuring. His only comment was that her teeth looked older than her registered age. (??) But since she is a pet, it really is not a big deal. Thanks...

    Pawing Horses...

Bitsy has done that a few times, but generally, I just pull her feed bowl out when she's done.

    Does mare weight look ok?

Again, thanks to all. I am taking in all of your feedback. I looked at the guidelines and weighed her grain. Looks like we are on target with that, although we could maybe add just a bit more. Will have to weigh the hay to see if we are OK on that, too. We'll have a vet here in the next few...

    Does mare weight look ok?

Thank you both. She's about 32-1/2". She eats Purina Mini/Pony feed, 1 cup in the AM, one cup in the PM, along with her 1/2 flake of hay each time. She does have a mineral salt block which she uses. We're in south TX, so she won't be dealing with a hard winter. I don't feel her ribs; they are...

    Does mare weight look ok?

Hi! Our ten year old mare that we bought about a month ago is still pacing a lot as she adjusts to the new surroundings, although not as much as at first. We are hoping she is not pacing off too much weight. Just took these pics this morning. Does she look ok to you? She eats a cup of grain...

    Scratchboard Animal Art

Glad to see a lot of crafters among mini lovers! I do full size scratchboard etchings as well as small keychains and ornaments, also hand etched. Mostly animals, including horses, cats, dogs, bunnies and more. My daughter & I also wrote a children's book, illustrated with scratchboard work...

Mare Having Trouble Adjusting to New Home

Two years?? I will stay in denial and assume it will be two months

Mare Having Trouble Adjusting to New Home

We never have the halter on her unless we put it on (almost daily) while we are there, to keep her used to it. After just a few days, she was very good about coming right over and having us put the halter on. She just isn't thrilled with it once it is on and tries to rub it off against the...

Mare Having Trouble Adjusting to New Home

Thanks! Agree, taking it slowly and gently is what we've been trying to do. We just need to have that patience and give her the time she needs.

Mare Having Trouble Adjusting to New Home

That sounds very much like this situation. We had a mini gelding many years ago, but hard to compare to him because he was the most docile little guy ever. nothing phased him whatsoever. Thanks; your experience is encouraging. We just want her to feel content. She is, of course, very calm and...
