    New Mini Mom

So we went to the vet on Saturday and he had some good and bad news. Deezy's coffin bones are rotated 25 degrees and 23 degrees in his front feet. We didnt xray the back because he assumed they would be roughly the same. He told me to put him on Purina Well Source Weight Control (1 pound a day)...

Wow! Thanks for all of the feed back, guys! I will read through this all tonight and see if there's something she and I can do to work on it all.

    Trust, Training & Treats

Thanks Marsha and Magic! I'm going to work with her tonight. She stood pretty well after tossing her head around for a little bit. If minis are more feral, that would make sense. I will keep that in mind next time she and I are working together. For now, I will work on just walking around with...

    Trust, Training & Treats

Okay, it's nice to know I'm not the only one having problems with a yearling! Lol! She rears up a LOT. She kicked me last night when I was trying to wash her and I open palm, smacked her rump. She seemed to sulk for a bit and didn't do it again. I cant figure out if she is acting out in fear...

    Trust, Training & Treats

Hi guys! My filly, Dolly, does not seem to have much training in her. I got her from a lady that breeds show ponies and she knows how to follow on a lead line but that seems to be it. Shown below is her first bath (given yesterday) and it did not go very well. We worked on desensitizing for...

    New Mini Mom

I definitely dont think of them like my dogs or my cats, but they are more pets than anything else. They definitely are not working animals..... yet. Haha! I have never given a horse a treat that wasn't made for them. (I taught my Quarter horse to "kiss" on command. My sister taught HER Quarter...

    Sand Clear??

I'm new to the horse world but I have read a lot about Chia seeds and their ability to help in the prevention of sand colic. I am actually going to soak some tonight to give to my minis over this next week. It helps in quite a few areas all at once! I've always heard it was a super food...

    New Mini Mom

What about treats? We're seeing the vet Saturday but I am already trying to work with him and Dolly and I didn't know if I could give him treats like carrots, apples, etc.

    New Mini Mom

As of right now, I have him on a really short, mostly dead grass paddock with half of a flake of alfalfa in the morning. He does go out in the afternoon on nicer grass so I will probably hold off on that. He has a grazing muzzle on the way. Would you recommend keeping him on coastal hay only...

    New Mini Mom

Thanks guys for all the welcomes! The dark one is Dolly and the roany appy is Diesel. Dolly is a year and a couple of months and Diesel is about 5! Poor Diesel is currently suffering from laminitis (you can see he is SO fat!) I am currently trying to get him in to see a vet so that I can...

    New Mini Mom

Hi guys! I am picking up my first two mini's EVER on Sunday! I am traveling all the way to Dallas (from San Antonio) for one. I have been researching the little guys for a little while but having never owned one, am definitely nervous! I have owned horses for the past 5 years but every one says...
