    Buxton martingle

Thank you I cant see that a sulky and easy entry cart would be much different than each other, so it should work for some level road driving I would think.

    Buxton martingle

Has anyone ever used a Buxton martingale on a miniature, like they use on the standbred? It looks to me like it would be a good training tool. If you fastened the Buxton to a surgical, then it could be used for long reining. Then I could fasten pvc shaves to the surigual to act like...

Where do you find racing harness for a mini? I see your driving with a full breast collar, can you buy a bruxton like the standarbreds wear?

    Expecting a foal.

We started to notice when the mare centers in the paddock that she doesn't run straight. Instead so running with her hind legs going out straight behind her, her right hind leg goes out to the side, as if it was a wing flapping to the side. I brought the vet backup and she checked for broken...

    Hitching miniatures

I was thinking about this today, and it I had the middle horse in the shaves, and one horse one each side of her, then she would wear a full harness, to carry the shaves and the breaching to hold it back. Then the outside horses, really only need a lead team harness with no breaching, right?

    Expecting a foal.

The mare is doing very well. Seems happy, and frisky.

    group stall/ run in shed

I was sort of thinking if I were away over night, something I could fill and know they had feed..... or if I might be a way and have someone fill their mangers once a day...….. that would by far be the exception, I am hardly ever away, lol

    Hitching miniatures

Thank-you very much. The three abreast is easier to drive than a 4 in hand, right?

    group stall/ run in shed

ok, that makes sense. I was sort of thinking of some straight stalls for feeding stalls if one needed feed or something, or separated for a foot injury.

    group stall/ run in shed

Thanks, what about a Manger that you put the hay down in? Then they would have to reach in and get the hay. Hay is scarce and getting much more expensive every year so I am thinking about how to give them enough without waste.

    Hitching miniatures

If you were reading my other post about the foal, you know that I was planning to breed a 4 in hand, but this weeks set back has me questioning a few things. I have never hooked of driven a 4 in hand, but I was thinking it would be a novelty.... But so would be a three abreast. It would offer...

    Expecting a foal.

I measured the minis last night. The mare is 34" and the colt is about 30-31". The colt will be one on may 9th, so the two of them might end up close to the same size afterall.

    Expecting a foal.

I found a chart that tells me that if I measure my yearling's height then I can divide that number by 0.9 and it should give me pretty good idea how tall he will be when he finishes. http://iamranch.com/miniheight.htm That will give me a better predictor of the future of the possibility of...

    group stall/ run in shed

when you group house your minis in either a big stall or a run in shed, what does your hay racks look like?

    Expecting a foal.

Thanks for all the condolences... I know it could have been much worse. I guess it is just disappointing... I like the mini's that look more like work ponies, and I have no intentions of showing them.... so there will probably be some that are looking for homes reasonably priced in a fall...

    Expecting a foal.

I have a pretty bad anxiety problem. That is why the waiting for the foal was getting to me so badly, and this isn't helping. My goal in breeding this mare, was to raise a couple of teams of miniatures with the dream of it being a 4 in hand. I have never driven a 4 in hand though... Have...

    Expecting a foal.

If you look on this link, the foal was in the "dog sitting position". But by the time I found her, she had delivered the body of the foal, but the hind leg was out, and the hip was wedged in the pelvis. http://iamranch.com/minidystocianotes.htm

    Expecting a foal.

One of the colt's hind feet decided to make it's exit with the rib cage. That caused the hip to wedge in the birth canal like a triangle. I knew that the hind leg had to push back in, but there was no way that I could do that. The vet was over an hour away.....but the colt was dead before I...
