    Gelding vs. Stallion???

I'm having my 2 yr old stallion gelded next week and would appreciate some feedback on what your experiences have been. My guy is a love-bug when he wants to be, and nasty (biting) when he wants to be. He can be very aggressive with me at times and I definately don't take him on walks alone...

Could my mare get pregnant by 1 1/2 yr old?

I have an almost 2 year old colt/stallion that has been turned out with my mare. Is he old enough to breed with her? She's looking rather chunky and I'm just hoping she's not!

Training with a Bit?? What do you think?

My yearling colt is somewhat halter trained but not as I would like him to be. Due to an illness and eventual death of my father, I didn't have as much time to train as was needed. First of all, this beautiful guy is our pet...no show ambitions. For exercise and fun, we take our horses for...

    Colicking?

My colt is not eating this evening, seems lethargic and laying down uncharistically. I took him for a walk, and gave him a little mineral oil. How much could be effective? I just gave him about 1 teaspoon. Should I give him more or wait it out?

    Ivermectin Overdose??

Okay...my fault!! the little knob on the plunger moved right when I inserted it into my yearling filly's mouth!! She got the whole darn dosage meant for a 1250 lb horse!! I'm waiting for a return call from my vet, but in the meantime...what can happen to her? There is no information about...

    Weaning...When Do Mares Dry Up??

Due to a death in my family, I unfortunately let my colt & filly nurse from their respective mares for far too long. They've been seperated now for about 3-4 weeks. How long does it take for the mares milk to dry up? I let the 2 mares out with the the colt & filly yesterday and the filly...

    When to Geld????

My colt turned 1 on April 25th and has yet to "drop". I'm having a hard time selling him as a stallion and may have better luck gelded. This is my first experience with a colt. When do they normally drop? I was hoping to get this done before fly season. Any info out there would be appreciated!

    Need Advice on Poo-Poo Problems

My filly and colt (7 & 8 Months) have been having intermittance bouts of runny poops. I feed Timothy in the morning and Alfalfa in the evening. I stopped the grain and the only other thing they nibble on is some honeysuckle bushes that line the stall. Their mom's also eat the same diet and...

    Update on my Filly!

I posted here a about 2 weeks ago regarding my 5 month old filly Bella who caught her halter on a fence and jerked herself loose. I had the vet out a few days later and she gave her some anti-inflammatory injections and I was told to keep her quite for awhile. After a few more days, I noticed...

Is my filly hurt? Need some advice or opinion

On Monday afternoon, my 5 month old filly had her halter on and she snagged it on a fence for a few moments. I saw her head jerking back and forth to free herself and she finally got it released after a few seconds. Since then, she holds her head down, isn't her normal playful self and is...

    Weaning Questions

Okay...I have 2 large stalls (32 x 24) and we just open the door between them for both mares and foals to roam. My filly is now 20 weeks and my colt is now 16 weeks. What is the best way to wean them from nursing? Do I need to seperate the stalls? Should I put the foals together so they can...

    When To Geld???

My 3 mo old colt is just a pistol to be around. He's been a biter from day one and every conceivable method to stop him from biting and nipping has been tried. He's already showing "stallion" behavior ie jumping on my other mare and trying to "do his thing". Question...Will this behavior stop...

    Pitt Bull Attack in Florida????

Need Help! Is My Foal Colicking?

I may be overly concerned but how can I tell if my 3 mo old foal is colicky? I'm usually not home during the day and am not aware of their daily habits. I went out this 8:30 a.m. to feed and it's already really hot! My foal was sleeping in the sun and she was sweaty on her chest. Not damp...

    Colt having very loose stools

My colt seems to be having very loose stools. Not really diarrhea, but just a blob. He is 8 weeks and has started to eat a little of the Mare & Foal grain I give mom. Could that be doing it? Also...what about fly spray. Could he be mouthing one of the other horses and getting sick from it...

Lime in Stalls...okay for the babies??

I just finished reading the info on Stall Cleaning and was wondering if it's okay to put lime in a stall where my filly and colt are. Would it be harmful if they were nosing around and ingested any of it? Just want to be sure.

    Formula for determining heigth?

I'm always reading or hearing someone say..."she should mature to 29 inches". How does one determine what a colt or filly will mature to? I know I've heard of a formula or two...anyone know of any?

Colt Still Biting - Calling All Trainers!!!

My 7 wk old Colt is still very aggressive and bites at everything and anyone. He'll chase after us and try to bite us on the butt or leg. He seems to not want to be touched except a "sweet spot" on this withers. He bites our dogs, my filly and my mucking shovel is a favorite. I'm continuing...
