What is the weight maximum for riding a 33" mini w/saddle?

    Gelding vs. Stallion???

Again, I thank you all for your thoughts and opinions. Regarding the biting issue, this little guy was biting from birth and being reprimanded at all times, hence my frustrations. I started out pinching his lip, and as he got older, I have to admit there are times when I've wanted to beat the...

    Gelding vs. Stallion???

    Gelding vs. Stallion???

I'm having my 2 yr old stallion gelded next week and would appreciate some feedback on what your experiences have been. My guy is a love-bug when he wants to be, and nasty (biting) when he wants to be. He can be very aggressive with me at times and I definately don't take him on walks alone...

Could my mare get pregnant by 1 1/2 yr old?

Thank you for this valuable, and possibly late information! My colt has a date with the doctor in 2 weeks for gelding. As a side note...he didn't "drop" until well after his first birthday. Another scary question though...if the mare is pregnant, is there any danger since they are somewhat...

Could my mare get pregnant by 1 1/2 yr old?

I have an almost 2 year old colt/stallion that has been turned out with my mare. Is he old enough to breed with her? She's looking rather chunky and I'm just hoping she's not!

Training with a Bit?? What do you think?

Hey...thank you all for your great advise. I will most certainly NOT go the bit way, but use your suggestions with the stud chain and re-visting the basic ground manners. I love this forum!! Thank you all for your help and I'll give you an update in a few weeks!

Training with a Bit?? What do you think?

My yearling colt is somewhat halter trained but not as I would like him to be. Due to an illness and eventual death of my father, I didn't have as much time to train as was needed. First of all, this beautiful guy is our pet...no show ambitions. For exercise and fun, we take our horses for...

    Mini's eating chicken feed????

I'm not sure how much they ate. It's probably been 8 hours or so since I found them. It's 108 degrees here and humid. They are all running around in the sprinklers right now as if no one feels bad. How soon can they start colicking if they're going to?

    Mini's eating chicken feed????

Well, I stupidy forgot to latch my feed barn and my 4 minis got into the chicken feed. Not sure how much they munched on and how full the bag was. What can I expect?

    Colicking?

Thank you for all of your ideas and thoughts. FYI...he's 17 months old. Not sure if that intitles him to be a colt still? This morning he started to roll around. The vet came out and didn't hear any sand in his gut. He gave him Flunixin and Banamine. This evening he's been laying down and...

    Colicking?

Thank you. He lays down, in the sitting up way. No rolling. He's in with my other 3 horses. He's had lumpy-cow-pie poops lately. I just thought it may be the heat. We're just about in the triple digits. We have misters on and the other's are taking it in stride. I'll check on him every...

    Colicking?

My colt is not eating this evening, seems lethargic and laying down uncharistically. I took him for a walk, and gave him a little mineral oil. How much could be effective? I just gave him about 1 teaspoon. Should I give him more or wait it out?

    Ivermectin Overdose??

Thank you all. My vet called and also assured me that she should be okay. To be on the safe side, she suggested giving her about 60cc's of mineral oil and maybe something soupy to munch on to help it pass. She also confirmed that using Quest is not advised because of the on-the-border-line...

    Ivermectin Overdose??

Okay...my fault!! the little knob on the plunger moved right when I inserted it into my yearling filly's mouth!! She got the whole darn dosage meant for a 1250 lb horse!! I'm waiting for a return call from my vet, but in the meantime...what can happen to her? There is no information about...

    Weaning...When Do Mares Dry Up??

Thank you to all who replied. I guess it's a longer process than I'd hoped, but it has to be done. We live in a residential area and have limited space. Now I have to let the colt & filly out together, then put them away and then let the mares out. It was so fun to have them all together...

    Weaning...When Do Mares Dry Up??

Due to a death in my family, I unfortunately let my colt & filly nurse from their respective mares for far too long. They've been seperated now for about 3-4 weeks. How long does it take for the mares milk to dry up? I let the 2 mares out with the the colt & filly yesterday and the filly...

    When to Geld????

My colt turned 1 on April 25th and has yet to "drop". I'm having a hard time selling him as a stallion and may have better luck gelded. This is my first experience with a colt. When do they normally drop? I was hoping to get this done before fly season. Any info out there would be appreciated!

    Need Advice on Poo-Poo Problems

This is all great information, thank you. Just to give a little more detail, my filly is the one that had a neck fracture around 9/1. She had been on Bute for about 6 weeks and taking an anti-ulcer medication also. During that time she started the diarrhea. My colt was fine during that time...
