    Worming mini horse

If I were you, I would definitely de-worm her and then again at least a month before she foals. I have read up on this a lot on several forums. From what I have read, it is crucial to keep on top of the worm issues. Type in an internet search for types of worms and areas that will plague your...

Frustrated - "everything seems fine until it isn't"

These minis are just so tiny compared to bigger horses. Have you ever been to a dog park with dogs and seen the little dogs trying to keep up with the big dogs and get rolled and tumbled? I have.. and dogs are more made to survive this.. a horse running with big horses in play can not be safe at...

Frustrated - "everything seems fine until it isn't"

Well either way, maybe there was no real way to private message and the people need to be made aware of experienced people's opinions. I would think it would be so hard on mini's to be put in with bigger horses. They want to run like them and may even get chased for fun sport.

Frustrated - "everything seems fine until it isn't"

Usually better to private message on Facebook about concerns that are upsetting. I think it is or can be used more effectively to help the person(s) realize a potential problem and even if they still get angry, it was done on your part in a more restrained way.

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

I did try to feel for movement. I thot I felt something but so hard to know. With the other horse, Jewel, she gave me no doubt at all. Her baby kicked and moved in obvious ways.

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

Well. Hmmmm... it is so very hard to tell. The other mare, Jewel.. she really showed but then.. she still looks kinda pregnant with her belly hanging down after foaling. Both horses have slowly lost the weight. Sparkles is almost near the good weight she should be at and to me is looking better...

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

Well hmmmmm. Yes..I suppose she could be and apparently she is still running very early morning in her pen for fun when my husband leaves for work at 6 and with her diet she is on, I would think she would be loosing the belly more. I still can not feel her ribs at all. She is stout and her hair...

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

Well if she is pregnant I would think she would have to be in the same cycle as most mares are in and would be over 9 months along. I suppose it is possible we could have a later foal in July or August. Oh.. poor Sparkles to have to deal with the heat.. so very hot/dry here at our home and she...

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

So.. wow.. I didnt realize that some don't feel movements until 9 months in their mares. Hmmmm... well there is a chance that she is still. This would be her 3rd I think. I also have the knowledge of the stallion -at least his name. The owners did tell me that.

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

Well. I am not 100% sure that she isnt. Yes, we did get her in October and she had been with a stallion up until that time when we got her so at the earliest she would be approx. 8 months along. I have felt underneath her belly in front of her udder for movement and am not feeling anything yet...

SparklingJewel Acres: Sparkles Maybe in Foal

Well.... it doesnt appear that Sparkles is pregnant. At least.. by now I think we should start to see some belly movement. She has lost weight. I feel badly that she had gotten so big but I really tho't she was pregnant until I felt fat rolls on her sides. She is slimming down now and loves to...

    Needing Advice on Deworming Foal

and Mary.. its a good reminder to put de-wormer in another syringe as the plungers on these tubes often slip and can be hard to deliver the proper amount. It will take me some work to figure out the amount to give. We do have the other syringes to put it into that will work well. Thanks.

    Needing Advice on Deworming Foal

It is good to know about the 5 day treatment so I will do once a month for now. I know with goats.. we have to break the cycle and have to de-worm every 10 days for 3 times. Then again in 6 months. Horses are quite hardy in comparison to goats for worm load. They are always nibbling on dirt and...

    Needing Advice on Deworming Foal

Oh.. This has been very helpful. Thank you so much. I have so much to learn about how to care for this little foal. She is almost too chubby it seems but in comparison to the large horse breeds that seem to have typical lanky skinny foals- she is just fluffy haired and rounded like her mother...

    Needing Advice on Deworming Foal

I also would like to add this: I know that with our goats.. their systems are quite different than a horse and they have some species specific parasites that are different but I have been quite successful in maintaining a good healthy goat herd free from parasite overloads. I do have to do a...

    Needing Advice on Deworming Foal

So I have read through many of the topics here on this forum about de-worming foals and adult horses and have gotten a fairly good idea as to what I am supposed to be doing. I decided to wait until our filly was 2 months old before we de-wormed her. she is almost that age. I have been told and...

    Sassy behavoir in little filly...

Hah ha.. oh I can so relate. Our little filly was adorably sassy too but it alarmed me as we have no idea what we are doing with bringing up a baby horse. I did what was suggested as the above posters here have.. gently put her in her place much like another mare would do. These little horses...

colts clipped (somewhat :) Now what color

I think you did wonderful . .. Our little foal is looking so shaggy. My photo opportunities were so slim as now she just looks so terrible shedding her coat. I am going to try to clip her and am not sure how it will be.

colts clipped (somewhat :) Now what color

Such beautiful long legs too. How did they do for you clipping them. Was it hard to do on them at this young?
