    Please help...extremely overweight mini!

I have 2 mini mares around 3-4 years old. One has become very overweight and I don't know what to do! They receive Miniature Horse and Pony feed and a couple of flakes of grassy hay every day. I've read that I should cut out grain but I've also read that they need the extra nutrients in it! Some...

    Overweight mini's

I have two miniature horses that are 3 years old. They are kept on pasture year round (although the grass doesn't grow well) and fed grass hay along with Nutrene Safe Choice Special Care grain. They have huge bellies! I'm looking for advice on how to get them looking in better shape. Also, which...

    Shedding out issues...

Thanks for the info. My large horse's have all shed out completely on their own already. If they don't start shedding out more then I might try to clip them. I've never clipped before though. I don't even know what kind of clippers to buy! Hopefully next year they won't have issues. Whats the...

    Shedding out issues...

Both of my mini yearlings had a very thick winter coat and are shedding out horribly! By that I mean they are shedding like crazy but don't seem any closer to being rid of their winter coat. Also, they keep getting mats in their hair. I brush them daily sometimes multiple times/day. I'm already...

    Lice? New mini.

I got my second miniature about a week ago. The poor thing was covered in mud and burdock. She also seems a bit boney yet had a belly. I wormed her a couple days ago. Her old owner doesn't know her age but thinks she is about a year...multiple things have let me to realize these people don't...

    Food agression!

Thanks everyone. I will have to try some of your suggestions. I've had her since she was weaned and she has been by herself up intil this past weekend. So she has not had to compete for her feed. Even now with my new mini she doesn't have to.

    Food agression!

My mini who is a year old Saturday is so mean when it comes to her grain! If she is eatting her grain she will constantly pin her ears, turn her butt towards me, bite and rear up if I'm near her while she's eating. How do I stop/fix this horrible behavior?? Thanks so much!

    Anyone buy from PrimeDesign? Halter

I was thinking about buy a nylon halter from here: Prime Design Tack If you go to the link go almost all the way down to see it: "Nylon Stable Halters". The picture shows a blue halter on a stuffed horse. Just wondering if anyone has bought this and liked/not liked it.

    Miniature's weight

For feeding grain the recommendations go by the weight of the horse. Wormer goes off of weight as well. How do you all determine what your mini weighs?? I feel like I'm just guessing. I do have a tape that is for measuring the height of horses and you can also wrap it around their girth area to...

    Spring grass alert

MyMiniGal: Thanks for the info! I will definately be checking them now. My mini's pasture has just barely started to grow so I haven't been worried about limiting her but I will be checking her hooves to be sure.

    Vaccination Recommendations?

My mini is going to be a year old at the end of April and she has not had any vaccinations before. I would like to have the vet out soon but want to have an idea on what vaccinations she should have. I live in Wisconsin. All opinions are appreciated!

    Harry season finally almost over!

I love seeing everyones before and after pictures. So many mini's don't even look like the same horse after they lose their winter coat or get clipped! I don't plan to clip mine but she is starting to shed pretty good so hopefully we keep getting nice weather and she sheds out quick. She is just...

Feeding 7 month old weanling...change feed?

My mini is around 7 months old and I have had her for a few months. I have had her on Purina Omolene 300 and feeding her according to the recommendations. She is kept on pasture 24/7 (the pasture is pretty much dead now for winter) and feed free choice hay...a combo of grassy and alfalfa. Back...

    7 month old filly...attitude!

My sweet little filly has recently started to show more spunk than ever before! She frequently will turn her butt to me and occasionally as in a little kick towards me. She also like to do little rear ups. What is the best way to respond when she shows this type of behavior? Thanks!

    6 month old mini..soft frogs?

My mini seems to have really soft frogs in all her hooves. She is kept on a decent pasture that isn't like a swamp land or anything and we have not had much to speak of for rain. Even when it rains her pasture doesn't get mucky. Is this normal for a young horse or does she have bad feet? I know...

Update on 4 mo. filly with diarrhea....

Bevann: Up til now the only product to prevent sand colic that I knew of is Sand Clear which is a powder. It is fairly sandy soil where I live so I'm worried about if the horse's intake too much sand. Do you use Equus as a daily preventative and can it just be mixed with their grain or fed...

    Preparing alfalfa cubes

I know they need to be soaked before feeding them but I was wondering if they also need to be broken up? So far I break them apart completely while they are dry then I add water to wet it all down. If I break them apart completely do I not need to moisten them? Thanks.

    Someone is feeding my horses.......Update

People have already giving lots of good suggestions. I would be furious at this lady...especially since she has already been asked to stop and refuses to do so! She needs to find a new hobby! Perhaps you could also print of some information about colic and why specific diets are so important to...
