    Free choice hay in Florida

I am looking for a good option for my minis to have free choice hay in Florida. Right now they have a pasture block of alfalfa but due to the high calcium and general laminitis risk, I want something safer. My pasture is essentially sugar sand so I'd like to make hay their main food source...

    Show picture!

My aunt showed Wyatt for his first two shows (open, but mini attended). She is very green and not able to really get him to "show" but she did pretty good. Despite being of the stockier type he did really well, pulling 1st/9 in his first show and 2nd/5 in his second show in halter. He also won...

    Quality enough for AMHA shows?

No he doesn't naturally toe out in front, but someone mentioned by PM his heels are not being cut down correctly and I think she's right which could be making it look worse. Thanks for all the feedback, I think we will skip showing AMHA for now.

Not yet, but will be by the show.

    Quality enough for AMHA shows?

My aunt has taken special interest in showing our yearling miniature since she is no longer healthy enough to ride and show her mare. I told her to take him to a few open shows for the experience, but she is really begging to take him to the AMHA show in April. The show is over 2 hours away and...

    Belly improvement?

Alright, we've been on the "new program" for a month. I think his belly does look a little better, but I had the benefit of help taking pictures this time, so I'm thinking it could be that he's stretched out at a slightly different angle and "longer looking". Before: Today: Swicthed to...

    How long to see results?

I do not believe he is overweight. I thought he looked pretty healthy when I bought him but the hair was hiding some lightly showing bones (not an animal rescue case, but not filled out) Its just been a big belly which I was told is most likely from not getting enough protein or maybe worms. He...

    How long to see results?

I did some feed changes in Jan. for my yearling mini. He went from a pad of alfalfa to free choice alfalfa (not much change really, he normally had some hay left all day) And January 13th I switched him from 12% to 16% Omelene 300. He also got power wormed with Safeguard on the January 15th...

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

Unless his sire really hides the silver well (possible) I don't see it. Sorrel Pinto x Blue Roan splash should only allow bay, black or bay roan/blue roan (also chestnut but, he's not that) If he were silver bay though... maybe.

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

I checked yesterday and where I didn't shave was about the same color as the rest of him really - dark grayish. I looked him over again and I'm pretty confident he doesn't have points, though he does have golden hair on the very tip of his ears. His mane definitely has white hairs throughout...

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

No idea on the silver bay - I don't have AMHA online to do the pedigree research for that one Do you have pictures of your boy to share? My priorities are to test for LWO and Roan. I think Sabino1 and Splash are pretty good bets. Tobiano is definitely possible, but not sure I want to pay $30...

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

Would any of these pictures change your mind? I think the other possibility is bay.

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

Oh darn you MHF!!! I didn't even remember that was a possibility! I just ran the color calculator again and that is possible. How long will it be before a black coat would come in? That would be stunning!

Clipping vs. Shedding naturally to determine color?

I clipped my yearling, and now I'm wondering if I should have waited for a natural shed. It's been grossly hot and I knew he was suffering but I have a dilemma. I can't figure out what color he is and I would like to send in his papers soon. He has a lot of gray hairs in his coat, but is...

My little guy - how does he look?

Thank you all I'm hoping the belly goes away instead of him growing into the belly, but... either way I'll be happy. I love the mini's who have a balance between refinement and substance. Pretty enough for halter, but strong enough to be useful in events His mom: His dad (I think a member...

Showing a mini with underbite + bit Q...

From a judging point of view - the miniature standards are pretty clear about under bite or overbite being a major fault if it is more than a half tooth width, BUT that only applies to halter. Any other class would be fine because bite checks are not used. If you wanted to show her halter...

My little guy - how does he look?

I've posted a few threads about my new guy and I clipped him up today. He's just about 9 months old. It's been 80-85 degrees and he's been miserable so I gave it my best shot. A few "highway marks" but not too bad. For his young age he was very well behaved, only get a little flustered with his...

    Halter - trained or scared?

Insomniac research drew me to a 3 part youtube video of the 2010 AMHA worlds. When handlers are setting up their horses and re setting them, it's pretty obvious that some techniques are pretty aggressive in body language and the horses are quite intimidated. Even when exhibitors come up to get...
