First time clipping my mini - need advice.

You have already had a decent amount of explaining by other people but what I can and will advise is: Make it a good experience for them. Nothing worse then having to clip a horse whose had a previous bad experience.

    Leaving Halters On.....No!

Horses can be a walking disaster lol. I avoid ALL risks of problems possible. Halters are always off

    Parelli people?

We had a 'natural horseman' come to our place years ago because we had a quarterhorse that would not load onto a float. After about an hour he gave up, stressed the daylights out of our mare, charged a hefty bill and left. Haven't touched one since. That's my experience lol. I once purchased a...

    Training for Jumping

Can you be more specific about jumping tips? What stage is your horse at? How old? etc etc

When Training for Halter Class what all should I be Training my horse to do?

Its hard to explain how to get the best out of your horse on here as setting up a horse to show off his best conformation features is hard without actually seeing him in person. At home what I like to do is set my horse up and figure out exactly how I would like to stand him in the ring. I use a...

    Clipping for warm weather?

Fortunately I live in NZ where the climate is a lot different - it doesnt snow here. So its ok to clip in winter as long as we have blankets, although I still dont bother

    Show halter Q

If you like the idea, make them for your horses Personally I think a well fitting halter looks beautiful and does compliment the head and help hide flaws. It can be the winning edge to make that horse just a little bit more gorgeous.

7 month old kicking when its feed time

Put simply, horses have a pecking order. In the wild, there is a boss mare and you must 'mimick' the boss mare. In the wild, the boss wont take any unacceptable behaviour from lower ranked horses in the herd. At home, YOU are the boss. It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Keep at it...

    How long to see results?

I live in New Zealand so cant really advise too much on what to feed, however, I believe it can take up to 8wks to see results Imo

Supplements & Shampoos to Enhance Color

A well balanced diet should promote healthy coats. I actually read an article in our recent Horse & Pony magazine about the link between horse's diet and coat bleaching. Basically it was to do with even levels of Copper and Zinc. A copper-dependent enzyme called tyrosine is responsible for the...

    Clipping for warm weather?

Yep, not to mention all that brushing is great for him getting used to be touched all over for when the time comes for clipping, he is already used to the handling. Grooming is so good for the stimulation of shedding and improving skin/hair condition. Also, regular grooming is useful for...

    book recommendations about training mini's

Oh lol, I didnt read how old he is. His man bits need to have dropped first obviously and I guess I have gelded as soon as possible depending on individual horse. Your vet can give you a good indication.

    Building Muscle

Walking and trotting with hills! It may be hard work, but while you take him for walks, you can also work on ground manners too - getting him to walk beside you, maybe stop and make him stand etc. Its all so one-to-one work that will benefit in the show ring. AND when I say walk, make it a...

I would recommend having him gelded as soon as possible if not already too

    Mane Thinning

Depending on the horse itself, I usually always do some amount of pulling (as described above) as a bushy, long mane can hide good shoulders and a neck. I never let it get too long either. I do use a few clipping and make up techniques for the ring to enhance features too. Just depends on...

Suggestions for a horse that won't drink?

I found a little bit of molasses in the water helps

    Feeding and exercise

All to their own. I don't do harness so it doesn't apply to what I like to do with my horses. My work with them is varied a lot and not strenuous until they are older and fit. Have never had a horse go sour
