    Great new tool

I got really tired of having difficulty picking up mini "muffins" in any semi grassy area - the manure fork kept getting hung up in grassy bits etc.... So I saw this industrial sized dog doodoo picker upper, one meant for kennel businesses. It has and 11x9x3 tray on a long handle and a small...

    you thoughts please

So I am so please with my Bo, the gelding whose hip was dislocated a yr ago last December, he has started to used the affected leg to support wieght, the leg moves more normally ie: flexing at the joints when he walks instead of just being swung forward stiffly. Now to the part I would like...

    never seen this before!

The deer here go into the horses field regularly and usually the boys just ignore them. Yesterday Pistol must have decided he didn't want them in "his" field. I watch him standing on alert watching the deer and then he stomped up and chased them out! Those deer were so surprised!LOL!

    you may remember Bo

Hi all - have not been on the board for quite a while, busy with the farm and my mini boys. Just thought I would give an update on my gelding Bo who suffered a dislocated hip last winter. He is doing amazingly well, is staying balanced and in shape with careful exersize and watching his diet...

    when to clip

Just a quick question. What should night temps be so clipped minis don't get cold?

    How Bo is doing

Just thought I would post how my gelding Bo with the dislocated hip is progressing. He has found his balance, so to speak, walks using the dislocated leg even though he does not put too much wieght on it. I have noticed he puts a litlle more on it every week. Yesterday I was cleaning his...

Does wormer stay usable after first dose?

Since the dosage for minis does not use up the whole tube of wormer my question is --- can you use the rest of it on the next dose, say three month after first use? Or does it go off once it has been opened?

    training to lie down

I saw mention of getting a mini to lie down for doing thier feet on the thread about hip dislocation - sounds like a good idea but I haven't a clue about how to go about it. Sure would appreciate instructions from those who have done it. Thanks

    Thankyou Lil Begginnings

Way back in the begginning of Bo's troubles someone said dislocated hip --- they were right. Took Bo in to the new vet and he did not even have to touch Bo before saying that was it (he did examine him though) then we went on a two hr drive through a snow squall to get to the only place around...

    Memory gone blank

I tried to log on to the forum from a diferent computer and realised I have forgotten my user name and password - passwords can be reset but darned if I can remember my user name - have looked all trhu my profile area and don't see any links to finding it --- I know it is different from what...

I don't know what to think

So what would you think... I have been finding out a couple of things lately - Let me start at the beginning. Bo has not been recovering very well and I have become sure that there is something more going on. So I talk to the vet again. He says I better take him to an equine specialist since...

    Still mystified about Bo

OK - so I talked to Bo's former owner again, asking if she was sure that Bo had never had a problem with - hind legs, hind feet, stifles, hips etc etc --- nope, he was always,to her knowledge, no problems, really good health. She had him for about 5 years, or rather her mother, she took over...

    Bo's progress

So I thought it was a good idea not to belabor you guys with all my daily worry warting - bit the bullet and got the vet to come. Vet went over Bo thoroughly. There was no laminitis (whew) My faulty imagining - hey, I've never seen it! - but there is significant tissue bruising and the joint...

    Totally gone!

I know it's a done deal -- I love these guys hopelessly (thinking about third!) even though I am begginning to suspect Bo has more problems with his hooves than his previous owner has let on. This just judging from what I saw before he came here and what has happened since. Do you think that...

    deworming product question

I am wondering about the following type of deworming product - should I stay away from using it( just because it looks like an "easy" way to worm them, might be too good to be true?) Apple-flavored Alfalfa Pellet Horse Wormer is for the removal of: -Large Strongles or Bloodworms (Strongylus...

    Very strange thing happened

Today I went out to bring Bo and Chocolate up to the barn - alls well, they come running down the field to me -- I was getting the halter onto Bo and he did this wierd jerk/step backup (thought he was just trying to avoid the halter, which he normally doesn't do) and then his right hind just...

    Walk like a Duck!

I am discovering that having minis is a pretty good learning curve! Take correcting the "nudging for treats" behavior. With my big horse I would let him know that this is unacceptable with a good nudge back with my elbow. WEELLLL -- my elbow is now many inches ABOVE the mini zone so I have to...

Hello - I am new to this forum - new to minis too - but really hooked! Really am appreciating all the knowledge and experience here - I have two lovely geldings, both cart trained, but I am not very experienced yet, mostly lessons. SOO I am taking things slowly and wearing my "brain bucket"...
