    Update on Fancy's Diet

Good ideas! The grass is super bright green and long and thick. It just looks like colic waiting to happen. I guess I can use the smaller area for now and it wouldn't take as much work to clean it out. Thanks so much for the advice.

    Diet for Stallions

I'm guessing it's the grain. I know all horses are different, but I was feeding my 35" mare 2 pounds a day (1 in the morning and 1 at night) and she was very overweight. I'm guessing too that the 30" stallion shouldn't need the same amount of grain that the 35" stallion needs, but like I said...

Oh yeah, I did forget to mention the mineral block! I just bought each of mine a 50 pound block for only $5 each at Tractor Supply

    Diet for Stallions

Hi Wendy! I am very new to this, but I will share what advice I was offered and what worked for me. I did get a lot of different opinions, some said to cut my mare's grain completely out, and others said they never would, so I just reduced it drastically. And I did so very slowly, over a few...

    Update on Fancy's Diet

We used all of our savings to get this place, so I don't have any extra money right now to buy panels. Oh boy... I don't want to make my horses sick... Maybe I can get a few goats and let them eat the grass in the smaller paddock (there are two paddocks so far) Then I will only have to stall her...

    Update on Fancy's Diet

Hi Wendy, Since I gradually reduced her grain, it took about a month. I only cut back on her hay only a very little bit, since I thought it would be best for the winter. But it has also been VERY mild here this winter. It's been 80 degrees for the last three days I just looked at your thread...

    Lunging

Thank you! I will do that. He had very good manners when I got him, and lately I haven't asked a whole lot from him, so I plan on doing more groundwork with him once we finish moving. Things have been so hectic around here with packing and travelling back and forth that all I have been doing...

    Update on Fancy's Diet

Thank you for the compliment! I guess she can be considered an "easy keeper" The problem is, at our new mini-ranch, there is no fenced area that doesn't have grass. I would have to keep her stalled most of the time, and the only time in her whole life she has been kept stalled is when she was...

    Lunging

With show season around the corner, I'd like to start conditioning my colt. He won't be 2 years old until August, and I was wondering if he's too young to start teaching him to lunge? If not, how often and for how long? If he is, what other types of exercise are safe for him? What about a...

    Update on Fancy's Diet

YAY!! Thanks for the compliments! I felt pretty vulnerable putting her pictures up, worrying that she didn't look as good as I thought -whew! I am feeding her one cup of Equistages grain and one (pre-soaked) cup of beet pulp twice a day and she gets a half of a small flake of hay along with her...

    Update on Fancy's Diet

Thanks to all who offered feeding advice to help me get my mares weight down! I think she is looking thinner now that I have put her on a diet, as everyone recommended LOL I thought she was a little heavy, but apparently she was obese. So what do you all think? Is she where she should be, still...

    Frustrating fact...

This is how I feel too, regarding the Bible and my own faith. I consider myself a Christian, but I do sort through a lot of the violence and smiting in the Bible My husband (who was raised Catholic) and I have had the gay marriage conversation more than once. He "doesn't care"... I think he...

    RIP Poldo

Awww Renee, my heart goes out to you. It does help the hurt to share funny stories. My first German Shepherd, that I was trialing with in Schutzhund passed away last year at Easter and it still hurts. The other day I just burst into tears thinking about how I miss him so. I was a groomer for...
