    Harness Saddle/Tug/Wrap Strap Question

No wrap straps are needed in your case, the shafts should float within the tugs and that two inches is all it should move. If you are planning on using a two wheeled cart, go for the sliding back band as well. You will not regret the comfy fit harness. How big is your horse? for the really...

    Black saddle soap

We still first have to find black saddle soap before we can find out if it will stain the horse Found it at www.fiebings.com only available in 12 ounce for $10.50 or 5 pounds for $42.50 So who is gonna try this?

    Question about the traces

Regarding the traces, they should go straight back with a breast collar and sloped down if using a full collar and hames. The article "understanding harness" by Barb Lee will explain all this here is a link .http://albrechtsanimals.typepad.com/understanding_harness/

    Black saddle soap

I have used black shoe polish on an older black leather harness and it did a great job, the better (more expensive) brand have a better colouring compound.

    Question about the traces

We have the training harness from Chimacum tack, very complete with bridle (open) side reins surcingle and crupper for 130 dollars just add a bit and reins. Pretty good value or spend a bit more for a leather one. The conway buckles are not the greatest but if you only have one horse to train...

My Current Bridle and Harness - Just Get a New One?

The shaft loops are part of the standard harness, and yes do call Janie she will talk you through the whole thing even if you decide not to buy from her she will take the time and help educate you. Give her a few of of the names like mine and other that referred you to their product, but even...

My Current Bridle and Harness - Just Get a New One?

As you know I love our comfy fit harness, we added the patent to the breast plate and saddle so it would look good even in a show, we also have the brown leather lining, all that comes at no extra cost and would make the harness nice enough to show in. The other great thing is the guarantee that...

    Harness Question

You can get it shipped to Bellingham in Washington, there is a company called ship happens and the you can pick it up and bring it across the line. I think our shipping was only 25 bucks or so. Ask Janie at Chimacum tack, she will give you a quote.

My Current Bridle and Harness - Just Get a New One?

If you are serious about driving I think it is worth every penny to invest in a custom made harness. We bought the Comfy fit harness from Chimacum tack and for us it just fits the bill. It may not be the cheapest harness out there but is a good quality for a decent price. You did not tell how...

    Harness Question

I second the Comfy Fit harness from Chimacum Tack, nice enough to use in the show ring and strong enough for marathon use. You can just dunk it in a tub of water and rub it dry with a towel.

Making them earn their keep...haha (Faux farm work questions)

Yeah should be easy and cheap, if you have no choice and a relatively light load you could always run the traces through the tugs so the downward pressure is on the saddle and not the neck strap. Then extending the traces would also help to reduce downward pressure

Making them earn their keep...haha (Faux farm work questions)

Have you thought of buying or using some old ski's? You could probably just nail some to an old pallet. Do not forget the single tree And yes I doubt too that you would have to worry about brakes, certainly if you are on relatively flat land. You could think of an anchor like they use for dog...

    Interchangeable breastcollars?

Yes, we love the full collars and hames, they have a lower angle of draft wich is perfect for the HyperBikes and would also be preferable if you were to do any heavy pulling like harrowing or the like. For most carts you would want to lower the single tree. Another big plus side we discovered...

    Interchangeable breastcollars?

We have the Comfy fit pair harness and added the pieces to use them for singles. This works like a charm! Now the other way not so easy the breast collar for a pair has two D rings attached to the front sides, these are to attach to the pair pole or the yoke. I think these rings can be added...

The right Cart for my Mare

Best thing is to talk to the maker of the cart or the dealer, your horse is 30" tall so that would be an A size. Thing is that it depends on the cart what shaft length you need. Reason is that some carts have a low single tree for instance and then you would need to have the horse further...

Quick question- russet lining on black harness?

Did you ask Janie at Chimacum about a saddle that would suit, maybe you can trace her back and send them the lines it would have to follow??? Matthijs.

    Cart Design Question

As long as your horse is willing to stand while you get in and out, and it has no tendency to kick or buck you should be okay. How much driving has your horse done? If your horse is really green you can always start with one of those Chinese imports for $500.= use it for a year and then get...

    Cart Design Question

Rhondaalaska, Hyperbike would be my pref if there are lots of hills around. Extremely well made at its price point. It also provides tremendous comfort for the horse as well as the driver. No brakes needed, maybe a spares bag or a seat cover with pockets for your lunch, or just a vest with big...
