    General Update

So much has happened lately! I'm going back to school full time for vet tech, hoping to be able to take my licensing exam in 3 years tops. Still looking for a job until then, but I know that one will come along soon enough I sadly had to sell Spanky. The only boarding place I could find for...

    Gelding at 6 mo's

Yes I am aware. Leaving the growth plate open causes them to grow taller, therefore changing how they were meant to grow. If you can't see how that can and will cause issues then I won't be able to change your mind.

    Gelding at 6 mo's

Like I said in my first post, I'm not sure of the issues in horses. However, how can removing hormones that are essential for growth during a time when growing is so important not cause issues? As for dogs, the risks of cancer is SO small, and actually there is more risk being put under. I...

    Gelding at 6 mo's

You guys don't get it. Early gelding DOES cause issues. The growth hormones needed are not present, and despite what a vet might tell you, is bad bad bad. I am NOT against gelding. I AM against pediatric spay/neuter of any species. And yes, I have met some human males that would have benefited...

The quality of life. Vets don't tell you the risks involved, and I'm not just talking about surgical risks. There ARE things that are more likely to happen in younger neuters. Things way worse than having to keep an animal separated for a few months while he matures.

    Gelding at 6 mo's

Ugh. Surprisingly, vets are NOT the end all be all of knowledge. Not even close. Most just want a quick buck. And it doesn't just decrease sex drive (which honestly is a training issue, and not a difficult one at that) and it may not increase or decrease length of life, but it does decrease the...

Also, just some food for thought. Humans that have their reproductive systems removed have to take hormones to stay healthy. Also, no credible Dr will do a hysterectomy or tubal ligation until you are 25 (at least around here) unless there is medical reasoning.

    Gelding at 6 mo's

I hear you, trust me. I think the general population should have fixed animals. However, I think at the very least wait until right before they reach sexual maturity. All these stories about dogs and cats fixed at 8 weeks and stallions gelded at weaning makes me cringe. I'd like to see some...

    Gelding at 6 mo's

Not with horses, I haven't read as much into them as dogs, because until I got Spanky (and found out how awesome minis were) I didn't think I would have horses for quite a while. But with dogs spaying/neutering young makes the animal more prone to hip dysplasia. Also in females it increases the...

    FURminators

No offense, but I HATE furminators. I've never seen a healthy looking coat from someone who used one. They tear and split the coat. Maybe I've just seen animals who get the furminator too often? I don't know, but I'll stick to the slickblock

Aww! He is so cute and little!

    Putting an EE cart together

Is ridiculously difficult. The barn owner and I spent two hours working on it and it still doesn't have the seat or the singletree attached. Most of the time was spent peeling that rubbery coating out of the inside of the holes as the bolts wouldn't fit in them (some of them I couldn't even see...

    Gelding at 6 mo's

I would prefer to wait until at least a year, 2 years being my personal ideal. At that point the animal has fully matured. I don't like taking those hormones away while they are growing and developing (in any species of animal)

    Kicking Strap?

Wow! I'm so sorry to hear that Mary, but I'm glad that you are all right! (and Dolly too)

New harness. How is the fit?

Yes I did. There were no issues and they have great customer service. I also ordered a few other things from them as well. He has had 50 days with Patty Cloake, but I have no idea how much was actually accomplished during that time so I started him over (sort of) I basically just started from...

    Kicking Strap?

I'd just like to add that Spanky is safe anywhere.... I doubt you will believe me but its the honest truth!

    Very itchy horse. Suggestions please

Is her skin/hair dry? Maybe the addition of some good oils and fats (rice bran or black oil sunflower seeds) would help lessen the itching

    Kicking Strap?

No worries, no checks of any kind here. I ordered the harness with a side check, but don't ever plan on using it. I ordered the kickstrap from Chimacum, not sure how long it will take to get here, but when it does I'll post pictures to see if its right. I am more of a visual learner

New harness. How is the fit?

I will fix that and then get more pictures (including ones with the breast collar), though it won't be for about a week as this weekend is crazy busy. The browband wasn't tight, but it was on over the halter and he wanted to go out for a walk so he would toss his head a bit and mess it up. I...
