Update on Mare w/Thumps page 7.(thumps video pg 3)

Try some sugar water in a syringe. That often stimulates a horse to eat. Hand grazing on grass is probably the best until she kicks back in to eating hay. Might need the sugar water several times a day. Karo works well too

First foal of 2012 for CMC

Darling filly! I love Candles - she was at my place for a year and she was always so elegant and free spirited - loved watching her prance around showing off. I am so glad that her new home is at CMC

    Mare Won't Let Foal Nurse

A lot of time the mothering hormones just don't kick in, but . . . It is VERY important to make sure the mare is comfortable so Banamine is a good idea to give just after she foals - it takes about an hour to kick in, but it should help relax her and will last about 5-7 hours (use 1 cc per 100...

Sending Wet Mares Out For Breeding...your experiences

Taking on a mare with foal at side is a scarey thing for most breeders - or should be! Not saying that I haven't done it, I certainly have, but I can tell you that every moment that the mare and foal are at my place I am worrying about the baby and the mare - what if something should...

    Stallion ate my broccoli plants

Glad he is OK - these horses are so funny. My first mare, Mariah, had a "thing" for Orange Crush - if she would see me with a can of it you could hardly keep it away from her - she would grab the can by the rim and drink it till it was gone -- ended up splashing a lot if it out, but she also...

    Foaling Mares Out

I would definately make sure that your foaling kit is close to where you expect the mares to foal out - and that all the necessary items (you can do a search here and find info out about what should be in your foaling kit) I think that having TONS of lube is really important because you can...

    Foal Alert question

I changed the batteries in the pager & halter monitors. They are installed correctly. But pager won't stop beeping even if the halter monitors are laying flat on the table It is an Equipage System which I love and have had for many many years and it has brought more foals into the world than I...

    labor or false labor?

I pray for your mares sake that you have gotten e repro vet to come help your mare. What you descibe is NOT normal and her life and that if her unborn foal is in grave jeopardy. Have foals is not for the faint of heart or pocketbook Please let know how things turn out. My prayers go out to...

Which stallion that you have seen in person,,,

A sincere thank you to all of you who have had such comforting words to say about Prince, it makes his being gelded a bit easier to know that there are breeders out there who feel much the same as I do about what he was able to produce - now it will be up to The Princlings to carry on - can't...

Advice on raising a litter of puppies

SKittle, with a large breed dog it is often helpful to have a whelping box with "pigrails" on the sides so that the puppy cannot be squished by it's mom. I know that it sounds weird, but sometimes the moms lay down on the puppies and they get smothered - even with pigrails it can happen, so my...

Which stallion that you have seen in person,,,

Well, I guess I had better jump on here and set the record straight. Since being banned from "personal sites" at work I am not on much anymore. Since we do not have human children, our horses & dogs are "children" to us, and a such I will defend them like a mother tiger will defend her young...

What is the ONE THING you would pass on to newbies

IF you really HAVE TO breed your mare (and that is a big IF) - then you should make the committment to BE THERE for her foaling - these miniature mares are not like their full-size counterparts - and Mother Nature does NOT take care of her own. If it means taking time off of work or hiring...

    For fun, forum free-for-all

I truly honored that so many of you think so highly of "my boy" Prince - I hardly know what to say. He has a wonderful, sweet personality, and in truth is kind of a chicken and very, very sensitive - his feelings get hurt more than any little girl I have every known - it is really kind of cute...

    Dog breeders--please read

Lisa, This is going to sound weird - but it worked for a friend of mine with her pugs. She BODY CLIIPPED them! Yep, off with #10's and then they wore sweaters to go out when it was cold - I think she bathed them regularly also - but it seemed that the clipping really helped with the shedding...

Thanks for posting a pic of Prince Jody - I am glad that you know I am not "technically minded" and posting pics is definately not one of my strong traits. I am so excited about the Prince babies - and Erica . . . I think Peas and Prince would make a wonderful baby - he is pretty close to you...
