    Size of mares/stallions

Breeding can be and is a crap shoot- I have a mare who is 33 inches and stocky as heck. We bought her bred to a 29 inch stallion- that baby came out big enough to be saddle broke and is 37 inches at 6 yrs old. Her next breeding was to a 30 inch stallion- that foal came out huge as well and is...

    Color confusion!!

Raises hand- I have a black silver mare who carries 2 copies of silver and looks palomino in winter coat. She is very pale and easily mistaken for a flaxe chestnut

    Shetlands X Miniatures?

Around here in the sale barns, all the small evil tempered little brats are Shetlands, the well mannered small ponies are called "Welch" ponies and if they are really really small, they are minis. Folks don't seem to understand that without a set of papers, all they are is grade ponies.

    Clippers (again!) Oster users?

For detail work, the Osters are fine, but as many said, once you use the higher end clippers, there's no looking back. For full body clips, I love my Double K's. I know a lot of people are starting to switch over to the Andis A5 because they are cordless and easier on the hand and arm. I can't...

    Calling all colour experts!

Dam looks black silver- hard to tell on the foal, though.

is this as wrong add I think it is?

Going to get varied answers on this one- some think it's perfectly OK, others not so OK. Me personally, I can't stand seeing minis being ridden by anybody, I don't care how small of a child. They are not like ponies and have stronger backs- years of downsized breeding have compromised the bone...

AMHR show in Gainesville, GA Pony classes included!

It's a great show with really neat prizes! I showed at this show last year, the very first show put on and was impressed at how well it ran!

    tattooing

My old man who just passed away was tattooed on his lip- there was even a notation on his papers. He was born at NFC.

    AMHA Look Up

Thank you- Jean Daniels and Jennifer Martin are the same person, I think they were just noting the name change. Sadly, it doesn't help as I got all the horses she had left back in 2009 and Streaker wasn't part of that herd, meaning that they were either sold without papers, or died.

    AMHA Look Up

If someone would be so kind as to PM me the current recorded owner of this horse, I would be ever so grateful. Having just lost my old man, I'd like to try and find a few of his foals it at all possible. Thank You! Forest Farm EK Spitfires Streaker out of Forest Farm Patches, foaled 3-25-02

    Lost a great one today

NFC Egyptian Kings Spitfire (Hemlock Brooks Egyptian King x Flying W Farms Spirit Flyte) crossed over into warmer and greener pastures this afternoon. He is already sorely missed... 3-12-1988 to 2-15-2014

I almost bought Bay Bee as a foal...wonder what she looks like now?

    Is anyone still feeding Stategy?

Not suprising they got cresty necks on Strategy- it's a heavy corn based feed and corn is a big no no for horses prone to insulin resistance. Most cereal grains (wheat, corn, oats, etc) are not recommended for horses with founder issues or IR.

    Mare covered by stallion...not ideal

I was told that the lute shot had to be given within 11 days of covering, and it's very cheap here, too- $8 for shot, $8 for the banamine. If you dont' want a foal, this is the best way to go. It's not truly an abortion, just makes her cycle again.

1 1/2year old has not dropped testicles yet.

My colt, who just turned 2 in Sept. has not dropped either of his. I was told his sire was a late dropper as well, though, so am not worried about it yet, It happens. My 5 yr old gelding was one of those that worried the crap out of me, though, he dropped one at a year old and waited till he was...

    AMHR "V" = Revoked?

Which is why they should start DNA like AMHA does- they already DNA the Shetlands, so how much harder would it be? I know they'd probably lose a bunch of people who don't want to DNA their horses or pay the extra money it would cost, but honeslty, I'd rather pay and know my horse is who I say it...

    AMHR "V" = Revoked?

It does mean void and that the horse was never brought permanent. I laugh at the comment that the papers belong to the registry- I seem to recall PAYING for those papers...

    locked stifle--won't unlock

My gelding had both of his cut and I have not noticed him lying down to sleep anymore so than a cat nap in the sun. He can get down on that leg and get up just fine. He was back to work 2 weeks after surgery- the quicker you get them moving, the faster they heal. Ask you vet about blistering as...

Amhr will not recognize breeding.... so no papers!!!

AMHR is also kind of weird about the Jan. 1st birthday. I had a colt that had not been registered AMHR yet and I asked about when I send in to have him registered about the additional fee to bring perm as he technically turned 3 on the 1st- they told me to wait until his actual birthday and send...
