The wait is over for us! Sugar had her baby!! :)

I had been getting up every hour, checking on her from window. I honestly don't see how we missed it because mom was checking her in between my checks....I had got up and checked her and she was standing in the corner, I couldn't see her so I went to the bathroom and looked out the window again...

    Maybe Baby Test Strips

I see those advertised at the top of the forum and also when I went to the mare stare website....just curious if anyone else uses them? Seems simple enough since there's no mixing or measuring.....? Thoughts on them?

    Watching mares....

Who all has their mares on cameras? I've always wanted to get one for the goats so I could watch them from the house (we kid them out early winter so it's cold lol) It would be nice to be able to check on Sugar from the house instead of walking down to the barn...lol however I am just wondering...

    What should I do?

My mare was in heat June 19th and was with the stud for about a week prior to that, during that week and about a week afterwards. So they were pastured together for about 3 weeks. So this would make her approx 9 months pregnant (if she took; by the looks of her, she looks pregnant; if not, then...

    Feeling a baby move?

Has anyone on here ever felt your mare's belly and been able to feel the baby kick? I do this with my goats from time to time and it's neat to feel the kids kicking in them. Of course, I am sure the does probably don't find it very 'neat' feeling...haha If you have been able to, where do you...

How long is gestation for minis?

Just as the title says, how long is the gestation for miniature horses? I sent a photo of my mini to a friend and she thinks she looks pregnant and says I'll be on baby watch in a month or so.... I don't think she looks pregnant but if she is, she's only 7ish months along. She was in heat...

    Pregnancy Checks

SO my vet doesn't have the "wand" to do ultrasounds on minis. So what are some other options for pregnancy checks? I know biotracking does a blood test for $25. Their testing is every other week and the blood has to be kept cold during shipping. And the pregnancy check can't be until 70 days...

    Is this even possible?

This is probably a stupid question for me to ask.... Is it possible for a mini to be pregnant with twins, abort one twin, but not the other? TIA

    Sugar lost her baby...

Sugar was four months along in her pregnancy. I just found the fetus this evening while doing chores. She's been acting completely normal and was normal this evening, I just happen to find it when I went out to open the gate to put her in the other pen. I don't know why she lost the baby but I...

    Caring for a pregnant mare

Would love to get all the information I need on caring for a pregnant mini and of course after she foals to. Never raised a mini baby before or had a mini foal.... So basically any and all information you think would be important for someone who's new to the mini pregnancy/foaling... Thankyou...

    Another question.......

I wormed Sugar yesterday, early afternoon. I checked poo this AM when I cleaned her stall, never saw any worms...this afternoon I saw a fresh pile in the pasture and I checked it out of curiousity...only saw one red worm and there were some tiny tiny tiny whitish worms...but some of them were...

    Photos of Sugar

Just thought I would share photos of Sugar. I got her last July. She was really wormy. And then she got sick in October and again in Jan. She ended up coming out of winter pretty thin. I think she looks much better now. Does she look too heavy?? I never thought she did, and if I run my hands...

    Clipping the winter coat...

I was wondering who all clipped the winter coats off of minis instead of waiting for them to shed out on their own? And when do you start clipping it off? Sugar is shedding her coat but not too much right now and she looks horrible at the moment with the way her winter coat is. But I wasn't...

Anyone else have a picky eater?

I have never seen a horse refuse alfalfa pellets or beet pulp...but Sugar refuses to eat both of them. Im wondering if it's because of her past type of feeds...which probably, if she even got grain, consisted of sweet feed or wet COB at her previous home...*shrugs* Not sure but I never had a...

    Shedding...Rubbing

Hi everyone! Sugar is starting to shed her winter coat. She's shedding like crazy to but she's also really itchy. She rubs her butt and neck on the fence and has rub spots where she has rubbed the fur off. I brush her daily. Is there anything I can do to make her less itchy? Thanks!
