When is a mare to small to bred?

    I agree Marty....no matter the circumstances....too risky.

Advice on how to handle a situation

The only way to control the destiny of a horse is to keep it......and then we are not really in control...we just think we are. It could die of colic, a dystocia (not associated with carrying a dwarf foal), or of many other reasons while in the care of the best horseman/horsewoman. All of our...

Advice on how to handle a situation

My point in this is....To me, personally, I would rather tell a white lie...that won't harm anyone and say...I have someone ahead of you looking at the mare. I will let you know. That is all it would take. But I would NOT post this on a public forum and risk the hurt feelings of "whoever...

Advice on how to handle a situation

Well...I am not going to throw any names out here...because it is not my place to do so....but all I have to say about that is that is a good darn thing that a very reputable breeder in the miniature horse industry did not give up on and incredible miniature horse, because he produced a dwarf...

Advice on how to handle a situation

I find this entire initial post disturbing. What entitles any of us to critique another's breeding program, if we are not asked to do so. The most important aspect in selling horses is to sell them to someone that will take good care of them...ie...feeding, worming, vet, farrier, vaccination...

Sorry Reo apologize for doing this

God bless you Reo. Thoughts and prayers are certainly coming your way. You are a great lady and have alot on your plate right now. Please don't put your gallbladder too far on the back burner....my husband finally had his removed last January and is a new person....amazing how those things...

Thank you...I thought so, but wasn't sure. My big horse friends call her liver chestnut...but silver bay for sure.

    Silver Bay VS Liver Chestnut

Would like to know what color you think this mare is. She has had no testing. I always thought silver bay, but not sure.

    Worlds smallest horse

To much is made about this one horse, its just silly how much energy is put into trashing everything about this one horse. To what end? Is he gone? Nope, will he make more youtube videos? Probably. So what difference does it make. None. OK...I said no more posts about this.....BUT this is...

    Worlds smallest horse

I just know when I opened this post...it was the happy little horse playing with the giant ball that made me smile...and then some of the people that wiped that smile right off of my face. A very real example of why I prefer to spend most of my time with the horses. They do not judge. I may...

    Worlds smallest horse

Thank you all so much...I cannot help it as this is "just" the way I feel. He is a horse and "all" horses should be loved. I have yet to see him "marketed" as a "show horse" or a future "breeding stallion"....he is a miniature horse that is in loving hands...at a time when so so many little...

    Worlds smallest horse

I very rarely post on the forum and it is the same for several of my horse friends for this very reason. I did not skip ahead on this post, but merely watched the video, and then read the posts about Einstein. What I saw when I watched the video was a very spunky little horse having so much fun...

Strange behaviour in mare in foal

I have a mare that does it to other mares that are in heat. She has always had a filly when she did this.

    Something spreading thru my barn

Several years ago when I worked with throughbreds, it was not uncommon for "skin disease" to crop up in the barn from time to time. It was almost always on their necks and spread by the reigns on the bridle. Wingnut was right in that the cure for this is to make sure the tiny "scabs" are off...

    Websites are nearly useless

I absolutely agree with most of what has been said. It is a complete turn off to go to a website and the most current information was put on there in 2006. I also just exit the site and go elsewhere. I do not put prices on my site...and I don't find it necessary. If I think enough of a horse...

Registering foals: Have I lost my mind???

I agree with weerunner. I have already AMHA registered my foals this year and didn't have to DNA. The only reasons that the AMHA would require it would be: The mare was not on the stallion report or the mare was on two different stallion reports and there was not the required amount of time...
