    drying up a mare

It's been 48 hours, so perhaps I shouldn't worry yet, but this poor mare's bag looks like a cows. She's just on hay, and hasn't gone off her feed, but wish there was something else I could do for her. I'M uncomfortable just looking at her like that! LG

Thanks Songcatcher! We found a picture of Hobby Knoll's Premier, a son of Jim Dandy's, whose coloring is very similar to your horse.

Ok, our foal is going to be in his first- and only show for the year, next weekend. Thanks for the great tips in getting him groomed up and ready. Best Way To Wean A Foal???

So how do you all wean when you have an "only" foal? We have just one mare and her one foal. Mom isn't dragged down from him. As long as he has a human with him, he doesn't mind being apart from mom, and mom seems to care less when she's out of sight from the foal,( when out driving, for...

    grooming horses for showing

I forgot to ask also- what is required for show halters? The show halters I've seen were very expensive, and since DD may not show them (again/often) I am looking for a less expensive option. Someone sells beaded show halters on eBay for around $20- and there are alot of positive comments...

My DD would like to show her mare and foal in one class each next month. This will be the only show they go to for the year. Our grooming experience consists of brushing, bathing and hoof picking. ( and I only own a good dog clipper with a #10 blade) We live in the midwest and the mare's coat...

    Feeder Suggestions needed

We bought these from Horse.com, and like them. However, our mare can knock it around a good deal, sometimes right off the fence. I think if someone was handy, they could make these Abetta®Half Barrel Feeder High impact poly feeder with welded steel hay rack. Mini feeder features a...

    Foal rubbing hair off

Our 13 week old colt has started to rub his head and his hinder against anything he can. We though perhaps he's just losing his foal coat, as the hair around his eyes, ears and muzzle have shed, showing a darker color underneath. However, he has rubbed the hair totally off a couple spots on his...
