breeding- mare willing but stallion not interested

We have hand bred up until this spring. I have 4 mares in with the stallion (I've been using him for 2-3 years). Last Thursday this particular mare stood to be bred. She is still following the stallion around with her tail up but he won't breed her. The problem is that I need to start her on...

Questions on video camera & videos of horses

I spend a lot of thought and time taking pictures and videos of my horses. I had to buy a new computer and my current video camera is not compatible with it. I am considering my options. I will not be spending a lot of money on this-- the money went to the new computer. My still camera...

    What I Did New Year's Day 2012

It was close to 50* here in Maine today, January 1, 2012. And I couldn't resist taking a lawn chair out to the baby's paddock and sitting down with my camera. For these shots I am holding the camera high above my head!

What size should run-in be for 15 mares

I am planning new paddock layout and wanted one large run-in for 15 mares or so. I already have a 12x20 shed for shelter and there will be lots of high tree shade for the summer and open sun in the winter. My concern is that some of the horses can be mean and push out the timid ones. And...

    beautiful moving colt

This little boy is eye catching in the paddock but I couldn't get a good picture of him. Luckily I had the camera when I caught him moving through the paddock. He is absolutely regal. He needs to full clip job (legs and head) but haven't gotten around to it.

Pictures I took of my stallion

He's just a stud muffin at home so he's not that fancy. Didn't clip him, just put some goop on his forelock to tame it a little.

    Another foal for Bit-O-Blue

Jazz finally foaled at day 356 and a black pinto with blue eyes and solid bay gave me a solid chestnut filly. (chances of that are 1.56%) She has a lot of white on her face-- I'd say bald?- and one blue eye. Looks like she has 4 white legs but I haven't confirmed. Her name is Eternity.

maiden mare sensitve about her udder

I've got a maiden mare that kicks when we try to touch her bag. I'm not squeezing or torturing her-- just trying to feel it. She hates it! I've tried rubbing her belly as 'foreplay' and she relaxes a little. But I'm still afraid I'll get my glasses knocked off my face when she bucks a...

Diana at Bit-O-Blue getting close to foaling

Diana looks like she is getting close. Her milk pH has dropped to 6.5. She is stomping and flashing her tail tonight. Her pH still has to drop another square before she will foal, but I think it might be tonight. I have Monday and Tuesday off from work so I am pretty sure she'll foal before...

    video editing program

Looking for a full featured program for creating videos. I have been using Windows Movie Maker. It will create a basic movie with decent transitions, titles and music. And it is free. But I'd like one that I can do slow motion, for instance. I put movies on YouTube for compatibility...

    shelter ideas

I've got a chain link dog kennel that is 12'x6' and 6' high with a door on each 6 foot end. I'm thinking I might put it in the paddock for a shelter, covering the walls and the top. I don't really need shade (it's Maine and we have a tree in there), but shelter from heavy rains and winter. I...
