    Worried

Sounds like when one of my mares had ulcers after colicing severely, lost a lot of weight and just picked at her feed. I took her off all commercial feeds and she got to eat all the hay (grass/alfalfa mix) she wanted plus pasture. She picked weight back up and eventually went back on small...

Painting of our HOF Foundation Mare

Beautiful painting! And a nice story too!

    ASPC Riding Class Question

In the ASPC rule book for Walk and Walk/Trot classes it does not specify tack. Just wondering if anyone knows if it would be acceptable to have a western pony being ridden two-handed in a western bridle with snaffle bit in these classes? The only place the rule book actually specifies is in the...

    Body Clipping Shetlands?

Thanks for the replies! Guess I'm going to be doing some extra clipping this spring!

    Body Clipping Shetlands?

Usually I don't have shows until later July when my pony is naturally shed out smooth. This year I've got a couple of shows in late May and June I'd like to attend, but there's no way my mare will be shed out by then. Do you all do full body clips on Shetlands for spring shows? I don't have...

    Interest in Driving

One AMHR show here does offer "Non Rated Open Classes" specifically for non-registered miniatures (or AMHA, WCMHR, etc.). They have added halter, color, jumping, showmanship, halter obstacle, driving obstacle, liberty, driving, etc. for these non-AMHR horses and have a pretty good turnout with...

Rule Change Proposal - process and input?

I'd support this proposal. The "in and out" format has been done at almost all of the open and 4-H shows in my area for the last several years. It's nice not having to try to stand and wait next to a horse that's doing circles, rearing, etc....and a real plus if your horse does those things that...

    Question on the color Grey

I personally think grays are pretty, but probably wouldn't buy one due to the prevalence of melanomas. I do have one gray mini mare that developed a melanoma under her tail, so now she can't even be driven any more (it's right where the crupper would go).

    AMHR AREA 2 SHOW - Who's coming?

The AMHR National Area 2 Show is this weekend in Centreville, MI. Who's coming and what horses are you bringing? I'll just have 1 "over" gelding for halter and western country pleasure driving.

    Show Harness Backpads

Where do you buy backpads for your show harnesses? I have a couple of fake "fur" ones that I use during practice, but they are too bulky for my show harness. I have seen some really nice thin, small ones that are not very noticible on show harnesses, but can't seem to find them online. Any...

    Brittle mane and tail

I use coconut oil (virgin). It really moisturizes dry manes and tails. My horses tails have never looked better and they are so soft and not course, almost like human hair.

    Highlighter for Driving Horses?

Do you usually close clip/bald the muzzle and eyes and use highlighter on your driving horses? Or do you show them without the "goop"?

    Where to buy footman loops?

LOL - Well that's easy enough! Thank you!

    Where to buy footman loops?

I would like to add footman loops (?) to one of my wooden show carts so I can use breeching with it, but I can't find any. Where can I order these from? Thanks!

    Can it grow?

That mane is luxurious compared to one of my mini appaloosa geldings! His mane is seriously no longer than 2 inches and super wispy and his tail looks like it's made of about 10 hairs! He looks pretty crazy compared to the long thick manes and tails of the other minis.

    What age do YOU wean??

The first mini foal I ever bought was weaned at 2-1/2 months and I brought her home at 3 months. She did need a good deworming and plenty of good food (she was quite skinny, but I think that was more a case of the "breeders" not feeding correctly than because she was weaned early), but she was...

    Bending Into Turns

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! My boy is a fairly hefty 37-38" 10 year old that I usually drive a couple times a week around some trails, weather permitting. Now that Leia threw it out there I'm thinking that the shafts may be too narrow for him. Since he can't even squeeze between the...

    Why we love grays

I have an 18 year old grey mare that has a melanoma under her tail. Aside from not being able to drive her any longer it has not seemed to be a problem and has not spread.

    Bending Into Turns

Okay, I've been working with one of my geldings for about a year now in driving, mostly around the house, but he's been to a couple of local shows and done well. I'd like to show him more in driving in 2012 and eventually try a CDE since there is a competition in my state. But, I'm having a hard...
