    Cattle Panel Question

We have used cattle panels for much of our horse fencing for the past 35 or so years and had no real issues with it (and it does keep out big dogs). As others have said the small spaces at the bottom and ours always sits on the ground and maybe even burried just a bit. Here the fencing around...

Disconnected Socks Sign of Pinto Blood?

With todays genetic testing it looks like any white markings (not appy or scars or roaning) on a horse are related to one or the other of the pinto patterns. As far as the socks I have a mare I think I've shown on here before with little socks. She is homozygous for tobiano. No other white on...

AMHA new Halter Stock Horse Division!

..."these classes are for the modern, athletic, using type of horses many are breeding today." Horses with more of a 'stock' type of conformation which I suspect there are thousands of them out there just waiting for a place to show. Now they can go show in their halter classes then go drive or...

AMHA new Halter Stock Horse Division!

Val, a good question and this exactly was brought up at the meeting. Frank broke it down financially for the membership. As I understand it, the classes on which there is a moratorium are classes divided off of an already existing class (like another height break etc)and the class they are...

Regarding the possible future DNA testing for Chondrodysplasia-like Dwarfism

I have a question. I assume the feeling that AMHA should have testing for dwarfism be mandatory includes AMHR? So having said that, Everyone says miniatures come from Shetlands, so why not start at the root of the problem and have ASPC require testing? Wouldn't that be the place to start? As...

    Quick question...

Cute baby. What you are seeing is clipped off winter or foal hair. It will usually not have a nice color to it till his yearling/summer coat comes in. Be sure to keep his weight up to keep his hair healthy. I often clip these black coats with a #30 then keep horse blanketed to keep him warm...

COLOR GENETICS on AMHA registration papers!

Mary, they will only add what you send a copy of the test result for. This JUST passed this morning. It's going to take a little time for the office to get set up, but I can tell you, I will be sending in copies of my foal's DNA color tests with their registration applications. There is supposed...

When your teeny mare is hugely pregnant!

I sure don't mean to be an alarmist, but I've just had experience with hydroallantois and maybe you want to be aware of this rare condition. http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/dvm/Veterinary+Equine/Hydrops-rare-but-know-signs/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/13320 In the case I had the mare didn't...

Registering and Showing for a Beginner

Hi Cabbage Patch! Minimor gave you good info above. It sounds like it would be close to impossible to find the original registrations on these horses. If you know exactly what their registered names are/were you could ask here on LB for those with stud book access to do a search for you to get...

Dog Blankets for Newborn Foals...What size works ?

These are excellent nylon insulated blankets for dogs and would work well for foals too. http://www.jefferspet.com/breathe-comfort-dog-blanket/camid/PET/cp/0027209/cn/100001/ But for a wet newborn always use fleece to help them dry.
