    Mature height prediction??

I always find it interesting how history of progeny doesn't necessarily dictate. This filly's dam had a foal sired by a 32" stallion who topped out at 26" tall. And her paternal sister out of a 38" Shetland topped out at 30". I love genetics and am always curious as to the "why". Though we may...

    Mature height prediction??

Thank you! She is a very special filly. This is her as a foal. She looks quite mature for only being 20mins old. I'm hoping she is done growing up!

    Mature height prediction??

I have a filly born in May, 2015 who is now 33" tall. She is chubby and fuzzy so it may not be aN 100% accurate measurement. Her sire is 31.5" and usually a downsize and her dam was 32.5" and only had one foal out of 6 reach 34". This filly was not an abnormally large foal and seems to have...

    Mare Gestations 2016

In all honesty, I would LOVE that! My poor girls are miserable!

    Mare Gestations 2016

It does! Shirley has had 6 foals (this is her 7th) and all were very typical. Now she is throwing the book out the window. The white mare, Carmel who was due yesterday has a very large bag, puffy vulva, mucus/bloody discharge, no foal movement, off her feed, major attitude changes, tested 6.4pH...

    Mare Gestations 2016

They are WAY "V'd". The dun mare (Shirley on bottom left) is usually on time or within a couple days. She is now 9 days over, HUGE bag, loose tail, grouchy as all get out and testing 6.8pH. But has been like that for a WEEK!

    Milk test strips usuage

So for 3 years now, I have used the milk test strips on my mares. My curiosity is - when do people START using them? When they are producing ANY fluid or just when it becomes "milk"?

    Mare Gestations 2016

My mares are now ALL over due. The mares that are typically fast to fill a bag are inching along and it is driving me NUTS! But I am glad to know I am not alone and that this seems to be that type of year

    Listless Broodmare

Her stiffness seems to be pelvic which doesn't surprise me as she has had AT LEAST 6 foals all VERY quickly with no assistance. I just want her to be happy and healthy. I am hoping she picks up after the foal is born. She will get next year off (though she tends to be very upset without a foal...

    Listless Broodmare

I certainly home that's all. I love this mare very much. And she has a forever home here (she has been through 7 homes since her birth) and will retire here

    Listless Broodmare

Hello again everyone. I have a concern about one of my broodmares. Shirley is a 13yo mare that I purchased in the spring of 2013. She was in foal at time of purchase and foaled a filly for me with great ease that May. She never seemed to get pulled down or loose weight the entire time she was...

    "Whoa!"

What a GREAT topic! I have a mare who is very similar when I ask her to "whoa"; she seems to get VERY frustrated about standing still. I will definitly try some of these tips to see if they help!

What Is The Future For The Miniature Horse?

Well Said, MountainWoman! I never have and never will expect my horses to create a profit. I am simply happy owning them and being with them. I will perhaps have a couple foals a year, but will never breed more than 4 mares annually (if that). I got into the minis because of my love for the...

    What classes for my mare?

Thank you so much! This mare is very spirited and probably should be in roadster (LOL) but I want her to learn more than speed. I think she is probably a Country Pleasure as her movement is not huge but she does have a high-knee trot and decent headset. I just hope I can get her where she needs...

    What classes for my mare?

Hello! I am fairly new to driving and VERY new to showing in driving and am trying to figure out what classes my mare should be in for AMHR. There are so many different options and I want to be sure I put her in one where she has a chance to succeed. Any pointers?
