rain rot and full winter coat

Your vet can give IV oxytetracycline. It is much easier. I wouldn't clip, either.

    Rubbing manes and tails? Danderuff?

Marsha, I wouldn't automatically discount medications just because they didn't work for Dusty. Not every itchy horse has whatever Dusty's problem was. Through the years I've had two minis that benefited from dex during the spring. One was fine at my mother's house and in one of my pastures...

Congratulations Stephanie (ThreeCFarm) - Baby Girl!

Sorry I didn't make it back on last night. Madison had a hard time going to sleep, LOL. Here's a photo I took of her today, at 4 days old: She wasn't due until May 28, but decided to make an early appearance! In fact, I was at my 9 year old son's baseball game just 14 hours before my water...

Training your horse to "stand" for show classes.

You've been at it long enough Sandee that I have no doubt you are correct. However, newbies often don't realize it is their tone of voice, etc that the horse is listening to. I have a friend that is just starting out with horses (big horses) and she's having trouble understanding that concept...

Training your horse to "stand" for show classes.

I know we all do things differently, and what works for one may not work for another, but I never use the word "no" with a horse. No sounds too much like whoa, and they mean two totally different things. If I'm getting onto a horse for doing something wrong, I say "quit" or make an "eh" sound...

    summer sheet or fly sheet?

Kensington makes a very durable fly sheet. A normal sheet is just going to get ripped up too. I had a mare that needed to wear a fly sheet all summer and the particular sheet I bought her from Kensington was very tough. Many fly sheets are not. Edited to add: I looked and I have the...

Experience with blind or "dummy" foals? Advice needed quickly

We had a big horse Appaloosa colt born once to a maiden mare. She went into labor in the pasture. He acted blind for the first week or so, and the vet thought it was probably due to being such a tight fit and the mare having some trouble delivering him. He eventually was able to see just...

    New here....

Moonpieface, I live 1 1/2 hours away from you, but there are plenty of people in the OKC area that would be much closer that could help you out. I get most of my mini tack from Ozark Mtn. I use a hose to bathe, much easier to get all of the shampoo off that way.
