what would cause this zig zag pattern on his back?

Just noticed this weird zig-zag pattern on mock's back and can't figure it out. Seems to be on the tips of his hairs, not at the base. Has anyone ever seen something like this before? I haven't used any new sprays or anything. Just curious. Thanks! Suz and Mocko

With all the rain we've been having, we have mounds and mounds of ants. Can anyone recommend something that is safe to put in the pastures to kill these things? Thanks. Suz

    Brewer's yeast

I'm thinking of starting my guy on brewer's yeast to try and get rid of his "pot belly" since I've read posts that this can work. Can I use "human" grade or do i need to get the kind specifically marketed for horses? Also how much should I feed? He's around 220 lbs. ( p.s. He also gets round...

Lice? Question re: ivermectrin zimecterin and other suggestions?

I noticed my guy was itcing his butt on fences yesterday and also that his hair around his butt has started breaking off due to the itching. Wondering if it is lice or just dry skin? He has never had lice before, and I'm really hoping it's not this time, but I wanted to know what to do in the...

ground cover - weeds - is it safe?

Can anyone identify this ground cover/weed? it is growing all around the stall and in alot of the pastures - killing off any grass. Is this stuff safe for him to eat? And is there a safe way to kill it without it coming back? Thanks. Suz

    stall mat question

Just wondering if any of you have ever used those kids interlocking "play mats" for a stall mat? Supposedly, they are waterproof and pretty durable. 3/4 inch thick. I hate those huge heavy mats and it may just be for temporary use. I would then use shavings on top of them like the regular...

Shredder/Chipper for hay cubes - anyone use something like this?

Was wondering if anyone had used a wood chipper/shredder - or the like - to crush their hay cubes? I've seen some posts on this topic here on the forum, but mostly from people who have heard of others doing it, but not actually have done it themselves, so I was wondering if anyone has any...

Florida people - are you clipping yet this year?

It's been in the 80's here in Fla lately (with overnights in the 50s-60s) and my guy still has his heavy coat. I'm tempted to clip tomorrow morning but as soon as I do, a cold snap will hit! Is anyone in Florida clipping yet? I guess if I do and it does get cold, that's what his blanket is...

blanketing in florida tonight? 20 degrees !!

Thanks all I decided to have him go blanketless and he seemed to be fine. His hair was puffing up and felt warm to the hand under the hair so I'm guessing he was warm enough. Yes, I'm so glad the bitter cold is over (at least for now). These past couple of days have been fabulous!! I can...

blanketing in florida tonight? 20 degrees !!

I'm in Ft. Myers, FL and am torn as to whether I should blanket my guy or not? It is supposed to get down into the 20's tonight. He does have a thick coat. However, he can't have hay over night to eat as he is on a special IR diet. He is stalled around other big horses. What are others in...
