    Verbal commands for driving

I didn't think about this, good point! I can see the merits of using a horse specific word! You know I already struggle between dog and horse training verbal commands keeping it all straight in my own head - to be quick with them! I can really see the merit though as you progress and compete...

    Choosing a cart

Can I intrude and ask a pony cart question? With something like the alpine or similiar pony cart - how long is it from the tip of the shaft to the back of the seat? If I was to haul it in my trailer, how much length is needed? I was considering a cart with removable shafts for ease of hauling....

    Verbal commands for driving

Okay, thanks everyone. The problem I have with "haw", "Gee" or or others is I don't automatically remember them! The words left and right I can remember. I can see the value of using "left left" or "left hard" or something like that to mean a sharper turn. I can also really see the value of...

    Verbal commands for driving

So, more specifically, when you are judged in a driving event (of any kind) do they expect you to use words for right and left and you are marked down for not using them?

    Verbal commands for driving

I have always taught my horses to know, whoa, walk, trot, canter... and I use "easy" and "good boy" and a few other things quite regularly. I am training a driving pony myself, working with a "mentor" trainer. She says we should use words to mean right or left for driving. She uses "git here"...

    eBay Vent/Head's up for sellers

I have bought and sold on eBay, not much, but an item here and there over the years. Most of the time it is fine, but i had an unbelievable experience as a buyer. I bought some boots from a lady - supposed to be a size 9. They arrived and were a size 5! I couldn't get my big toe in them, I...

Measuring my horse - how to get an accurate measure and other questions

Thanks for all the bling suggestions and all of your response! I will definately check out the suggestion to add a little fun to the harness. . I have been having alot of good sessions with this pony. I can't exactly explain why I had this little "breakdown" and started thinking I shouldn't...

Measuring my horse - how to get an accurate measure and other questions

Thank you, that is what i was looking for that I couldn't find! I knew small pony was somewhere in the 11-12H ballpark. If I am understanding this right, as long as he is UNDER 120 CM or 47.2 inches (11.3 H) he is small pony... woo hoo! I feel confident he is under 11.3 Your explanation...

Measuring my horse - how to get an accurate measure and other questions

Hi Again, I am the person who has the rescued "pony" bought at auction, of unclear background (story is that he is a reject from a local Shetland breeder, but who knows). I have posted here a few times about him because this is such a knowledgable group of drivers - appreciate the help extended...

    Cart Suggestions

Thanks for that link, I had never heard of them. I intend to mostly pleasure drive, wondering if metal is more weather friendly then wood? Wondering if anyone has a G&S Road Cart? They look durable and weather resistant, but i have never seen one in person. http://www.gscart.com/atcart.htm

    Cart Suggestions

Hi, I know most of you drive minis, but wondering if you can share suggestions on a cart for a slender built shetland type pony? I rescued a pony from the killpen and he has done wonderfully in his training. He is so far only pulling a cart in the arena, but will be soon coming home where his...

Can someone point me where to get more driving info

Hi, I used to care lease a driving mini and first discovered this forum during that time. He has since gone on to competing in 4H with some children who are really benefiting from his experience and diminutive size. I in the meantime returned to horseback riding primarily for the last few...
