    Pretty crappy year

I was feeling pretty sorry for myself about the last couple of years with foal loss and now I read your sad events with the horses and foals! That is absolutely unbelievable bad luck! I hope its run its course for you and glad you can be thankful and happy for your two lovely fillies. I have...

Thank you MB. I will post as soon as she is seen again. AM hoping for more hot weather tomorrow so I can take her to the beach and soak her legs a bit to clean her up again. She seems peppy and happy so thats good. PS She is the appy in my avatar. to put a sweet little face to your prayers

Someone else also advised breeding her again - said I would likely never get her in foal again if I didn't but I would agree with you Nathan on this. First I wouldn't have the heart or nerve to do it with her- for a while anyhow, and wouldn't having a few normal heats clean them out somewhat...

I think my vet sent out this other vet (the one who did the pulling) because he himself could not make it out in time to help me. The vet doing the pulling mostly does dogs and cats. So far as my mare not foundering (by some miracle) I think it was only because so much surgical soap went into...

Thanks so far. I am not saying my 1st vet was incompetent but I was unsure whether vet #2 should have been pulling so hard on an already dead foal. I tried to read and did a search on bladder damage and birth but all articles just talk about it in the foal. It seems to me that pulling at an...

West Nile and Rhino shots and pregnancy

That is great to hear your success - congrats on a healty foal crop! I would just like to add however w/o trying to be negative or positive, that vaccines may not be the same from year to year, and they do get perfected as they go along. One of my boarders swears that her horses intent...

Hi All, long time no been here. My vet is not back til August 2nd and we have troubles. I am not even so sure I want to see this vet again so here is the scoop. My mare finally had gone into labor so I ran outside with camera in tow as the foal was presently normally in the dive position...

    This morning sucked

Okay, I will up the grain a bit. Thanks everyone. The hay he has unlimited access to, but I will do 3/4 am and 3/4 pm to start with. He is depressed about his stall mate being gone. Agh this has been so awful...again I thank you all a million for being there and responding to me. It is...

    This morning sucked

Lyn, just wondering you think should be right for amount of grain? ...and would you think if I up the amount to give it twice a day? The filly that died was a good weight, but the other little one has tended to be ribbier under his thick coat. He is about 20" high though...a very tiny baby...

    Mare with LOW temp.

I don't know about horses but our dog with low temperature turned out to be a major hormonal imbalance...she was breathing out cold so one could feel it. In her case it ended up being a tumor in the brain causing this, but I suppose odd things in pregnancy could upset your horses...

    This morning sucked

Thanks again everyone. Its been hard for sure but it helps to have this forum and other horse people to talk to. Thank you for your responses. Someone said to me I should check into my hay as they read something a long while ago about dairy hays such as my orchard grass being unsafe for foals...

    This morning sucked

Thank you all. I did some reading on Blister Beetles and it doesn't sound like a possibility as I do not feed alfalfa and we are in BC. It sounds like the beetles get into the plant stocks and being that the orchard is a flatgrass and in the local hay I have never heard of it around here...
