    Boredom?

Years ago our Arab started drinking very excessive amounts of water. Long story short - after no answers from the vets we went to a nutritionist who asked if it had started with a change of hay. It had. She said to try changing his hay - that the new probably had too much calcium or potassium. A...

EHV-1 cases in upper Midwest, Colorado

There have been 10 to 11 confirmed cases in MN - starting at a barrel race in Winona Co. They have tested positive to EHV-1 but a good number of them have neurological signs not just respiratory. Some have been euthanized. Latest confirmed case was today at Anoka Equine. They are asking that...

    Herpes-1 Outbreak

Go to FB page for Stillwater Equine Veterinary Clinic in Stillwater, MN. They have an update from yesterday. It started in MN and is now in Cedar Rapids, IA also. Tests show respiratory rhino but several have neurological signs. One barrel event that was to be at Kirkwood has been canceled. I...

    Congratulations 2013 Super Geldings!

Congratulations everyone! I'm proud of Cavalier - he achieved this and his halter HOF this year (even with two really bad shows because of caps coming out.) Pam Crise

Judge accused me of drawing dorsal stripe

Googled it. I have a friend who went out and got a nice show shirt for her very first AMHR show. The shirt had glitter on it. A small amount got on her horse - obviously nothing she intended to do. This same judge stopped beside her in her very first class and told her glittering her horse was...

    Thought he was lame again

This sounds like what we went through 1 year ago almost to the date with one of our miniatures. She is only 30" tall and our best jumper - her HOF would be in reach in the next show season (2013). Our miniatures all have individual stalls they eat in then are turned out into groups of about 6...

    Predator strategy - guard donkey

We have a mountain lion that runs the river and part of the timber we live in. I got a mini mule - I got him for his ears not for him taking on the cat. (-: He knows when the cat is out and about before the horses and he will put his herd into the barn. They are there until he says they can go...

Question for Sansaveres re: Enchanted Hollow Show

Hi Bob & Chelsie - I haven't been to meetings but wanted to let you know IMHC also had to find a new date because of Congress. I believe they put in for the first weekend of August at Waterloo. This would also be the weekend for Mississippi Valley in Davenport. I think the 2nd weekend of Aug is...

A Humerous View from Outside of the Miniature Horse World

Actually we are entered at the IA State Fair - have gone for several years now. Horse Dept told my husband there were 29 entry forms for 156 horses this year. I personally know one gal who is taking 20 horses, another taking 22. Both will take over and under: foal to adult: halter, jumper, and...

AMHR compared to AMHA bloodlines...help!! please :-)

Check with the AMHR office. I hardshipped some in from AMHA - they do not have any bloodlines printed on their registration papers from AMHR but I believe they show up if they are looked up in the studbook. I had to change the prefix because their original was reserved. I think at the time they...

    Mane & Tail

Mary I've had good luck with a bath with vetrolin, oster, or tea tree shampoos and conditioner. Then rub in some cowboy magic detangler & shine while the neck/mane is wet. Tail also, stops that shedding of those 2" long tail hairs that flip upside down and look awful. Then I just put in on when...

Radical change in mini's behavior-- Update post #14

Bonnie is great. Maybe a chiropractor. My mare does this type of thing when her poll is out. If it has been out for awhile she will avoid being caught, avoiding work and more pain.
