    New Puppy

My 2 new additions. 20 weeks old now (photo from a couple weeks ago). Zayna (in the water) has been here since she was 8 weeks. Willow arrived at 14 weeks. They aren't real brave yet, but they try. 2 weeks ago Zayna alerted me to a sick fox (late stage mange) that was hiding in the barn--I...

    ASPC Congress

The Moderns are also very likely gingered, and ginger can cause some ponies to get light behind or even kick. And yes--the tailer has nothing at all to do with a lack of training, confidence or "chasing". A good tailer does not chase! Not just anyone can tail--grabbing a friend to help out...

Is there a good brand of cordless clippers out there??

I loved my Wahl Chromado and the Wahl Arco is almost as good (better in some ways as it has a spare battery.) Unfortunately it won't take your Andis blades, it has its own 5 way blade.

Nerve damage and muscle atrophy of forelimb and chest

I once knew 2 horses that ran into each other, not quite head on but close--they hit shoulder to shoulder, both ended up with Sweeney shoulder though one had worse atrophy that the other. I would suspect some sort of old injury on your 2 to cause this.

    How's the Weather ?

Oh joy, we have another Colirado low coming. Supposed to dump snow and maybe some rain on us between tomorrow night and Friday morning.

    Winter water

Not at all. I will repeat--most of the time they have water (cold) available--so if they get thirsty they can drink it. Sometimes some of them do drink it. Other times they wait for the warm water. When it is super cold--40 below and a wind blowing, they have little to no interest in...

    Winter water

In winter I water 2x per day. We used to take warm water out 3x per day but quit that when they showed they weren't interested in drinking that often. They always have water out if they want to drink but some of them wait for me to bring the hot/warm water out. If it's -40 and the wind is...

    Winter water

I guess none of my horses have ever read those study results. Most of ours prefer warm water. A few like their water almost hot. Our Morgans were this way, and the ponies now are the same. They will flock to me when I bring out hot water. They will even check their water tub, discover it is...

    Mini bits

To lift the bit you can just tie a shoelace over the nose from bit ring to bit ring. Then use another string to tie around the first one and pull it up a bit--fasten that second string to the crown piece. This way the bit gets lifted up off the tongue a little bit. It will not interfere with...

    Supplements

The time our horses were eating dirt it turned out we had a mineral imbalance. I started using Equest Range Horse Blocks and that fixed the problem. The horses gobble up the mineral when they need it, and they ignore it when they don't need it. No more issues with eating dirt.

    Rescue or breed?

I would just buy the horse that I want. I rescued my first 2 minis--from a neighbor's property where they did not have enough to eat. I watched them get thinner--they looked so sad out there!!--and finally made a deal to buy them. I have raised a number of foals in past years. I love the new...

    Color matters

Color doesn't matter much to me--I am as happy with a plain solid chestnut as I am with a pinto or black. Conformation and action are the 2 things that sell me on a horse. Silver black and silver bay are my favorite colors, so if the conformation I like comes with one of those colors, all good.

    Shetland illness

    I am so sorry!

    Shetland illness

What comes to mind for me when he cannot stand but is eating--rat lungworm. Apparently it is now widespread in the UK. That would account for the inability to stand, but I don't know if it would account for him being unable to poo or pee. Otherwise--do you have poison hemlock growing there?
