Dealing with the loss of a horse

Thank you everyone, I'm doing much better now. I've been able to distance myself from the day, and am thinking more of the good times we had. I appreciate everyone's help.

Dealing with the loss of a horse

My friend loves making shadow boxes, that's the best idea I have. I also got a bracket, not made with her hair, with her name and the date she passed on it. I didn't think of pottery, that's a good idea. I'll just have to find a place where my cat won't knock it.

Dealing with the loss of a horse

She didn't wear horse shoes, but I did get a piece of her forelock for my me (which the owner of the horse was ok with) and part of her tail for my niece (which got me yelled at. Apparently taking part of the tail is barbaric.) I don't know what I want yet, but my niece wants a bracelet made. We...

Dealing with the loss of a horse

This is true. I just don't understand how people can do it, especially sweet ones like my Candi (though when I wasn't at the barn for a while, phew did she let me know she was displeased). That's the only thing that is keeping me from bawling at work. I was pretty much useless yesterday, I'm...

Dealing with the loss of a horse

I was hoping you didn't say that, but I figured you would. I've lost horses before, but this is definitely the one I was the closest to, the one I feared losing.

Dealing with the loss of a horse

I volunteer at a rescue barn and got really close to a horse that was beaten in a previous home. I picked her because I am a big man, which is the same size as the guy who beat her, and she was terrified of me. I figured, I'd be the best person to help her. Which I did. While she got better with...

    Hey all!

We have 10 minis at the rescue barn. It's crazy at how quickly you get attached to them.

    Hey all!

Hey. My name is Matt. I'm fairly new to horses compared to most people, been working with them only for three years. I volunteer at a rescue barn at least two days a week, and in return am allowed to free lease the horses to use in horse shows.

Getting mini to slow down before jumping

Once I get back to the barn, that may be one I try as well. It's definitely a good idea. I'm glad you are feeling better after the pulled hamstring. The barn owner is 70, and even after needing a cast on her ankle, she was still out there daily. Walking around with a plastic bag over her cast...

Still says too big. The file is 3.38 MB. I'll try to lower the size when I get to a computer and then post them.

Everytime I try to upload a picture, it says the file is too large for the server.

Getting mini to slow down before jumping

That works great. Once I heal and get back to the barn, I'll start working on it then. I love horses, but they are far more headstrong than I ever thought before I started working with them. Haha The barn owner used to be a vet tech, so she immediately got me in the golf cart and brought me to...

Getting mini to slow down before jumping

I wouldn't have thought about moving my torso, I'll definitely try that. The problem with consistency, is I can only volunteer there during the weekend. So only two days a week. I hadn't thought of going back to the basics, as she has had training, but that sounds like what I'll need to do...

Getting mini to slow down before jumping

Hello all. I'm a fairly big man, and am working on training a mini to do jumps for horse shows. The problem is, the horse was trained previously to take jumps as fast as possible. While trying to slow her down, she out ran me and caused me to fall, injuring my knee. Can anyone give me tips to...
