My Shetland mare did the same thing. What worked for me is to SLOWLY brush your hand down the leg, then kind of pinch or rub the fetlock/ankle area. Be very careful with this (mainly not to get bucked;)). Don't try to pick up the foot, let him do it for you. as soon as he picks it up stop and...
With my shetland, who is prone to bucking, I generally leave it long. If I do anything with her tail I either trim it or braid it (just so it stays clean and doesn't drag on the ground). I rarely ever brush the tail as it takes a while to grow and I don't want to rip some of the hair out. With...
Since foal has never been in a trailer tying him/her will only cause panicking. So I would not tie the foal. Definitely make sure that the trailer is padded. How big is the trailer?
DE is used because it has microscopic sharp edges. On a garden it will get wet and when it gets wet then it will be soaked into the dirt. When it gets soaked into the dirt then it is ineffective. But in an intestine it is still abrasive. Now I could be wrong but this is just what my research has...
Thanks :p;) Have any of y'all ever started your minis? If so what method did you use? I generally first get them used to the harness. Then I work with them on their cues. Then I add a very loud sled and just tie it to their harness so it drags behind them. Then I get them used to the cart etc...
Like @Minimor feed it pound for pound. If you see that they are gaining lots of weight than maybe cut down on the pellets. Is there anything in the pellets other than hay?
I am currently planning on starting my Shetland Mare. I have other minis that I have broke to drive (if that is the right way to put it). So I have a fair understanding of how to teach a pony how to drive. But she is pretty green. She is halter broke and is okay with children, but she has a...
Welcome to the forum from Texas! I do agree with all that has been said. You should definitely get a vet out there to check. Especially if there is any chance that the stallion is bigger than her.
I agree you should ask for the photos. His knees do look swollen but he could just have fairly bulky knees ( I have seen minis and horses with bulky knees before). I would definitely suggest getting a vet check before you get him; it is better safe than sorry. He is a cute colt though.
