Thanks for all the replies. We have ordered a breeder alert system. It should be in today. I will have transmitters on 3 of the 6 mares that we have left to foal. As soon as one does, her transmitter will go to the next mare.
Good luck with all your foals this year.
Levon
We lost our third foal today due to foaling problems. Had we been there earlier, this one surely could have been saved. It just took one small tug on a leg that was way behind and she was out. We have decided that we will invest in some sort of alerting device. I wanted to see what others had...
The vet was very pleased with the way the little guy is progressing. He only has a very slight limp when he runs. You can't tell he has had any problems when he is walking. He stood all the way to the vet today, chewing on my shirt sleeve and nipping at my arm.
He is a real character and I...
The colt is doing much better. He is really getting around well now. He still favors that leg a little but nothing like before. I wonder if it is sore from the flushing or if it is just a habit. Thanks for all the advice, prayers and encouragement.
Hello again. The little guy is doing much better. The joint was flushed again yesterday and this morning. The fluid that was drawn off this morning had no sign of the bacteria. So hopefully a few weeks of antibiotic and he will be ok. He is already walking much better. I hope we never have to...
Well the little guy likes riding in the bronco. He is also very well mannered after all the handling that he has had. The fluid that was flushed out today didn't look near as bad as that yesterday. He got another injection of antiboitic in the joint, and a systemic antibiotic as well. The vet...
He is already walking better than he was this morning. It is still sore for him, but if they poked my knee the way they did that poor little guy, I wouldn't be walking for a long time. Lynn and I have decided that we are going to buy a trailer since there is no way to depend on any of the vets...
I was able to talk with our regular vet yesterday and she felt there was nothing to worry about. The colt was doing fine, and I wanted to believe he was. This morning he was limping again. I called the vet, and she is out today. I called a few others and said I need to make an appointment for...
Well the berry fairy came by and left two more beautiful healthy colts last night. A red pinto and a silver pinto. That brings the total to 9 colts and 1 fillly.
Someone mentioned earlier that we should switch roosters, we are using 4 different stallions.
I will try and get pictures on this...
I can't really complain, most years we have way more fillies than colts, I guess we are just playing catch up this year. If I can find good homes for them, I will be very happy.
He has been fine all day today. I still have not heard back from the vet. I hope she will be in tomorrow and I will see if I can get her to see him. I do appreciate the advice, I didn't mean to sound otherwise, but I had already tried very hard to get someone out here.
I should have stated the initial response differently, "Any advice or sugguestions on what to do while waiting for the vet to return a call would be appreciated". The first thing that I did was call the vet, then another and another. I left messages for all three and haven't heard back from...
We have had some of the prettiest babies ever this year and all but one have been colts. I have no idea what to do with so many boys.
The only filly is below.
This is a leggy boy.
I think this one is a keeper.
We still have a few more to go, sure hope the filly fairy finds her way...
I went to the barn the last time around 10 pm and the little guy is getting around like nothing happened. As soon as his dam was standing still he was busy nursing. I think he may be ok. :aktion033:
