    brown buckskins

Here's my new girl. Please no comments on how skinny she looks, this was taken the day I picked her up. Haven't even had her a week yet. She's a smutty buckskin pinto, and is a champion producer. She is currently eating her head off, gaining weight. I am so excited about the possibilities with...

    AMHR National Late Entries

I feel horribly for the people whose entries were denied this year. I do think the people that the post office screwed over should be allowed to show, as long as they have proof from the post office that their entry was on time, and it was the post offices mistake. In that case, the post office...

How's your hay situation this year?

I'm in northern California, and we also buy by the bale. If it's priced by the ton, it's still baled, you just get 20 bales (our bales are pretty much always around 100 pounds, 3 string). We feed twice a day, and go through about 16 bales or so a month. I believe we pay $10 or 11 a bale, but it...

    Dark Buckskin or smokey black?

I have a mare like this too. Mine turns chocolate brown in summer, though. And she's a funny colored black. Her breeder and I are wondering if she's actually a very dark bay (I believe her dam is registered as a bay, and is a funny color black like Gemini). She looks black sometimes, though, so...

    Checking Show Record

Is the only way I can check a show record is to call AMHA? Is there somewhere I can check on online? I'm trading a mare and filly for a young mare that has been shown, and I'm curious about her record. Is there only the one way to check it?

    Just thinking and wondering...

That is what I was thinking and hoping for, Equuisize. I'm kind of hoping for a situation where someone just needs more help, and has extra space. I want to stay/work at home to be with the animals, while my significant other is going to work outside somewhere. So it'd be a perfect situation for...

    Just thinking and wondering...

I'm wanting to move from where we are currently located. My significant other is across the country right now, and we're wanting to be in the same place. Between us, we have 15 horses right now, but I am actively selling a couple, so our end numbers are likely to be somewhere closer to 10. These...

"Bred for 2013" as a selling point - not!

I have a mare for sale right now who is NOT bred for 2013. I didn't breed anyone this spring, as I'm hoping to move this fall, and don't want the greatly added stress of having pregnant mares to haul (it's gonna be stressful enough as it is). My mare did foal this spring, and her filly is...

    homozygous black /frame etc learning

It is impossible to get a homozygous frame. That particular genetic combination is lethal. That is why testing for LWO is so important. The foals are non-viable, as they do not develop correctly or completely. However, if you mean homozygous for tobiano, yes, those can be found, but they do...

New Addition & Color Help Please ---> PICS added pg 4

This is the smokey silver dapple I mentioned. Cream does change how silver dapples look. This gelding was pretty much always has/had golden color... even when he had a "silver" effect coming through (which was usually only right after being clipped, or if he had been fed something to change...

New Addition & Color Help Please ---> PICS added pg 4

I would say smokey silver dapple. I had a colt this color. He was really stunning. He was also a funny color in winter coat. I have pics of him if you'd like to see. He was by a perlino, out of a silver dapple appy mare.

    ♥ ♥ ♥ 2012 Foals ♥ ♥ ♥

Bay filly, sired by Bells Hollywood Heartbreaker, out of Las Doradas Bucks Blue Baroness (Buckeroo granddaughter). Live, healthy, and my second filly (out of 12 foals!)! I just about fainted when I saw she's a girl! And 13 hours later, Baroness's sister Las Doradas Bucks Honeybun foaled a solid...

    AMHA vs. AMHR

It does also depend on where you are... there aren't many AMHR shows where I am, but there are a decent number of AMHA shows. So people tend to want the AMHA registered horses, simply because there are more showing opportunities closer to here.

    Strange marking. What is it?

I was gonna say it looks like she's been scratching her sides on a wire fence, or something like a wire fence. My girls get marks like that too, when they scratch their sides on our fence. It tends to show up either after clipping, or right when they shed off, since they normally scratch...
