Thanks Chanda! I caught up to her on fb...
Hi Marsha! I'm fine. Busy like everyone else. I'm teaching first grade now--started prepping my room today.
I'm a grandma of two of the cutest wee girls you have ever seen--no really--it's not just grandma talking. :-) They live just 10 minutes...
Okay--she should be fine then. She tore her eyelid partly off somehow. Lord knows how maticulous about everything to keep them safe...
I kept the mask on all day--as described above. I didn't put it on in her stall tonight. Hoping things look better in the morning. The gel is supposed to...
lucky--the vet and I talked while she was here yesterday stitching Rosie's eyelid (Never a dull moment!) and we discussed the plan. I'll finish the 100 tablets of meds, then keep a bottle here for just in case. Once winter hits and it's dark by the time I get home, and snowing, it'll be hard...
This was yesterday. I have no idea how she did it. Nothing has changed in the pastures for 13 years. The barn does have a stone wall though---it's be tricky, but maybe that's how she did it.
Anyway--doc stitched her up and all is well except she keeps scratching it on stuff. She got her fly...
Update on Mazie. Last blood test--end of May--showed insulin at 59, which is wonderfully down from 85, but still not close enough to 40. Leptins were 9.2, which are down from 15; they should be 4. Mazie was put on Meformin--and is doing well. I'm exercising her again--slowly. The first time...
I had white milk the night they foaled! It was always the same--yellow but not too sticky, then yellow and sticky, then once skim milk appeared--the foal arrived that night.
In case anyone is wondering, we have a plan. Triple Crown Lite will be Mazie's feed to mix with her supplements. I'll add Remission--and if she won't eat it after another few days, I'll get Quiessence. I'll add powdered probios for awhile... to everyone just because of the major temp changes...
Just talked to the vet. Mazie has EMS. Her insulin level tested 84.96--it shouldn't be above 40. Her leptin level tested 15.79--it shouldn't be above 4. Her thyroid tested low normal.
The vet is spending time this afternoon getting more info from the hay analysis, but I've been reading and...
Aww--you are sweet, Chanda. But knowing the little one measures a tsp is all I need. I have extra measuring spoons I can take to the barn. Thanks though! Hoping I hear on some blood test results today.
The old scoops are always better! lol I wish mine had the little scoop. I'll have to take out a measuring spoon.
Farrier here today--trimmed her again after just 2 weeks--said warm hooves grow faster. He's again coming in a month. He is not worried about rotation, says I can't take her for...
Oh gosh. How very sad for this horse. I bought a 10" saddle for my mares, and it was too long and heavy to my liking. I switched it with a 5 lb 8" saddle. Thank goodness my granddaughter is a peanut--10% for weight and height, so she should fit in it until she's 2.5 years. Then it's up to...
On Remission, my vet said it's the same stuff as Quiessence, just marketed differently. Remission is not as readily eaten as Quiessence, so you might want to go with that. I'll keep up with Remission since I have a 4 lb container. I hope they lick it up soon with more enthusiasm because I can...
Love the equine vet that came out--and am switching to her. She is doing over $250 of blood tests on Mazie to figure this out. She can see no outward reason for her laminitis, but is suspecting low thyroid. This is from me telling her Mazie is my itchy horse---and she's had an itchy horse...
