17 bales isn't a bad haul. If they are 60# each that's half a ton of hay. That's 2/3 of a years hay for one of my minis. With the added bonus of knowing nothing nasty was sprayed on it!

We are watching after my grandfather's place until it sells (he passed two years ago) and were able to have half of his pastures cut for hay this summer. We got just over 3 ton of hay off of it. It used to get grazed down to look like a golf course when he had all of his thoroughbreds out there but now it's just our riding horses so they can't even come close to keeping up on it.

As for gate clips, we have to use carabiners or padlocks since we have a Houdini horse who can open any clip we've tried. The padlocks we stared using when Grandpa got dementia and started opening gates and leaving them open....
